NFL news: Around the league in 32 plays
By Ben Almquist

Denver Broncos: Denver has reportedly upped their offer to star linebacker Von Miller. It now sits at a reported six years/$114 million, with $70 million in guarantees (now second in guaranteed money only to Andrew Luck). Not everyone has been content with this process though, as defensive end Derek Wolfe lamented on the fact that he took less money so the team could sign Miller.
- Chiefs’ Take: The Broncos will continue to be formidable as long as that defense largely stays together. However, Miller’s megadeal will make it more difficult for the team to keep all of its talent.
- Author’s Take: Miller made his position clear. I expect this deal to get done, but don’t be surprised if Miller’s camp looks to make some last minute noise to try and give him the highest guaranteed money in all the NFL.
Indianapolis Colts: Colts running back Robert Turbin was arrested for possession of marijuana this past weekend. This will likely result in some kind of suspension.
Chiefs’ Take
: Another team now potentially in the trade mix for Knile Davis. Turbin had been expected to be the team’s third down back this year. Pro legalization…anti-legalization…I’m in favor of anything that benefits the Chiefs.
Kansas City Chiefs: Some last minute chatter has come out saying the Chiefs are now unlikely to get a deal done with star safety Eric Berry.
- Chiefs’ Take: The Chiefs have no replacement for Eric Berry…or Husain Abdullah for 2017, along with very limited cap space to work with.
- Author’s Take: This smells of an agent (and Joel Segal is one of the best) trying to get some last minute concessions. Maybe turn that roster bonus into part of the signing bonus. But the two sides are clearly still talking, and that means a deal is much more likely than not.
