AA Mock Draft: Andy Reid’s offense takes over
By Ben Almquist
6th Round
De’Runnya Wilson – WR – Mississippi St
Strengths: A big bodied receiver with long arms. Shows surprising quickness off the line, as well as in and out of his breaks. Understands how to use his natural advantages to create separation from defenders. Soft hands and excellent hand-eye coordination. Red Zone mismatch. Puts his basketball background to work on the field.
Weaknesses: Lacks straight line speed to be any kind of a vertical threat on the outside. Is a strong man, but doesn’t always play that way. Inconsistent as a blocker. Needs work with his mechanics and route running. Character flag for an arrest in 2014 for drug related charges.
The Fit: The Chiefs WR corps still lacks a big bodied guy who can be a solid possession type receiver. While Wilson won’t blow anyone away with his speed, he is a natural mismatch for any slot corner. Wilson showed a knack for moving the ball as 77 percent of his catches went for 1st downs. He’s a bit more of a WR/TE hybrid, and can offer the Chiefs an excellent red zone option that would be very difficult to cover.
