Justin Houston’s contract is good for the Chiefs
By Ben Almquist
Ultimately, the Chiefs got Houston on a deal that reflects both his talent and importance to the team. Kansas City is a better team with Houston on the field than without him. We saw that in 2013. The Chiefs now have the best pass-rusher in the NFL, in his prime, for the next six years. That’s important. Especially for a team that is built around a defense that relies on its pass rush. I know it’ll take some folks a little longer to appreciate this, but it’s going to happen. You are going to come around. Just like everyone did after Tamba Hali got his money, and just like everyone did after Derrick Thomas became the highest paid defensive player in the NFL.
Now, I know a lot of this was just frustration on the part of fans who had grown impatient. But as long as Chiefs Kingdom is going to laud itself as the best fans in the NFL, then we’d had better be prepared to back it up at all times. Not just when things are going well, but when they’re going slowly as well.
