FRANKIE HAMMOND
Hammond had himself a hell of a game last weekend in the second half of the Panthers game, and earned himself some first team reps in practice this week with Dwayne Bowe missing some time due to injury. So it should not be a surprise if we see Hammond out there running around with the first stringers tomorrow night.
Hammond has a solid combination of size and speed that he’s displayed over the last two preseasons. Coming out of Florida Hammond measured at 6-foot, 190 pounds with a 4.44 40 times. His three cone drill was an impressive 6.57. That athleticism and size could play very well on the outside, say, opposite of Dwayne Bowe.
If Hammond can give the Chiefs some quality snaps as a first-team player then the Chiefs should feel good about their ability to rotate him and Donnie Avery on the outside during the season. Going with the hot hand could help keep the Chiefs passing game consistent when it comes to attacking down field, which is something all of us would like to see happen more often.
Diamonds in the rough like Hammond are what it takes to build Super Bowl caliber rosters. Hopefully Hammond pans out.
