Linebackers

Ryan Shazier – OLB – Ohio State

Ryan Shazier (6’1 – 237) was unfortunately unable to participate in the forty yard dash due to a tweaked hamstring but one thing that stood out to me was his size and strength. I’d seen highlights of Shazier in pads and honestly, he seemed somewhat lanky. I was wrong. Shazier is much bigger than I anticipated and much stronger as well. He put up the bench 25 times, but most impressive was his vertical jump which was measured at 42 inches. Shazier was projected to run in the 4.4’s and if he’s able to do so on his pro-day, Shazier will no doubt be a second round pick, if not a late first round pick.

Kevin Pierre-Louis – LB – Boston College

Kevin Pierre-Louis (6’0 – 232) had the most consistently good numbers at the combine for the linebackers. He ran a 4.51 forty, a 1.53 10-yard split, a 39 inch vertical, and a ten foot eight inch broad jump. Pierre-Louis was very quick for his size and seemed to be quicker than he was fast. He would be great in a zone defense and may even be a candidate to move to safety. If he’s anything like the last notable linebacker to come from Boston College, he’ll have an excellent NFL career. But chances are, he’s no Luke Kuechley.
