Many Kansas City Chiefs fans woke up yesterday morning and were greeted with the good news that two more members of their team were selected to the Pro Bowl. Tamba Hali and Eric Berry were added to the AFC roster when the Steelers advanced to the Super Bowl, meaning that Troy Polamalu and James Harrison would not be able to participate.

Hali making the Pro Bowl is widely viewed as justice being served after he finished the season second in the NFL and first in the AFC with 14.5 sacks. Berry on the other hand has been met with mixed reviews. Don’t get me wrong, I think all Chiefs fans are happy for Berry and think he is going to be a star. However, when you say someone is “going to be” something it implies that they aren’t there yet. I think the number one complaint is that Berry was too weak in coverage to really warrant making the Pro Bowl.

After the break I’ll explain why this Armchair Addict thinks that Berry not only deserves the honor this season but has a chance to be one of the best safeties in the entire NFL very soon.

KC's most exciting victory in years came in 2009 against the Steelers at Arrowhead.

The Kansas City Chiefs have wont he AFC West and the only thing they have left to control is whether they are the #3 or #4 seed in the playoffs.

We talked earlier in the week about the possibility of the Chiefs being able to decide their playoff path. By intentionally resting their starters and thus likely losing to the Raiders, the Chiefs could “chose” to play the Ravens at home and then Patriots on the road if they wanted to.

Most AA readers agreed that the Chiefs’ easiest playoff path was likely to win vs. Oakland and host the Jets in the first round of the playoffs. Locking up the #3 seed would give the Chiefs a chance to host the AFC Championship game should the New England Patriots lose in the divisional round.

There is one possibility, however, that we haven’t discussed. If the Cleveland Browns manage to upset the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday and the Baltimore Ravens win, the Ravens would win the AFC North, the Jets would get the #5 seed (because of a victory over the Steelers) and Pittsburgh would be coming to Kansas City.

And that might be in KC’s best interest.

I explain, after the jump.

In this series, Dr. John Best, aka the Sports Doc, will take on his son, “Arrowhead” Adam Best. They will debate the Chiefs, the NFL and various other topics in order to discover if father really does know best.

The Old Chief: Adam,

Everyone is missing the obvious on this Super Bowl. While everyone is focusing on Larry Fitzgerald, I feel the most important player on the field is Casey Hampton. Yes, Casey is at bat again. The eight-year veteran from Texas is responsible for up the middle push as well as stopping the run. Why is this important? Kurt Warner steps up in the pocket, often avoiding the rush from linebackers and defensive ends. With a strong push up front, it will decrease Warner’s ability to make plays and get the ball downfield.

Overall, I think dick Dick LeBeau’s outfit will be more prepared than the Eagles were. It has recently been discovered that defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has metastatic cancer (skin) to the spine, which has limited his involvement. This might be in part responsible for the Cards fast start against the Eagles. The toughness, the balance of offense and defense of the Steelers, as well as the push up front from the three lineman plus one linebacker will be too much for the Cards.

Too tough. Too balanced. Too experienced. Plus, as someone who grew up in St. Louis, I know better than anyone that the Cardinals are born losers. After all, this is still Bill Bidwell’s team. There has never been anything “super” about that man. Meanwhile, Mr. Rooney and his Steelers have five Lombardi trophies. The Steelers win this one decisively.

Remember the name Casey Hampton.

Oh, remember the name Santonio Holmes, too. Very underrated player.

(Adam’s rebuttal after the jump…)

Remember when Larry Johnson got pissed a few years back when Troy Polamalu was running back a turnover and threw him around by his locks WWE style? (how anyone could forget the severe beating we took after the infamous sex toy-conference fiasco in Pittsburgh is beyond me.)Well, it looks like that may have been the motivation for a new proposed rule change–because of the Chiefs. From AOL Fanhouse:

Adam Schefter reported on NFL Network that the NFL’s competition committee is considering a rule that would bar a player from wearing his hair long enough on the field to obscure his name on the back of his jersey. Players like Polamalu and Jaguars cornerback Rashaen Mathis would either need to get a haircut or figure out a way to stuff all that hair in their helmets throughout a game.

According to Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs proposed the rule change, perhaps motivated by the incident in October 2006, when Chiefs running back Larry Johnson pulled Polamalu’s hair to drag him down from behind — which is legal — and then held onto the hair after both players hit the ground, drawing an unnecessary roughness penalty.

I don’t know about this. I don’t want anybody telling me how to cut my hair. Then again, my hair is buzzed. Also, there are bosses out there who don’t allow employees to have long hair, so this wouldn’t be that unprecedented. My thing is, if players want to take the risk of having long hair out there on the field, isn’t that their problem?
