You may not remember him because the team was so terrible but Babin actually played for the Chiefs in 2008 under Herm Edwards. He was a former first round pick that never lived up to his potential and had been bouncing around the league…so naturally Herm picked him up.

The 2008 Chiefs defense was terrible and Babin didn’t make much of an impact. Last season, however, he finally brok out as a member of the Titans. Last season he had 58 tackles, two forced fumbles and 12.5 sacks.

Could he be coming back to KC? Probably only if the price is right.

Here we are, hours away from the 2011 NFL Draft. As the draft has grown closer, I have become more and more certain that the best move for the Kansas City Chiefs is to trade back from pick 21 into the top half of the 2nd round. In order to do this, of course, they will need to find a trade partner.

The first thing that needs to happen in this process is for a team to want to trade up for a player. A common thread that runs through all the teams I’m about to talk about is their need for a quarterback. For this draft, the quarterback class will set the tone for the entire draft. More than 10 teams could have QB as a need for their team. That means about a third of the league could be looking for a QB. If it appears to any of the teams hoping to get their QB in the second round that the QBs may not last that long, then teams will be looking to trade up to make sure they get their guy.

Jeff Fisher, the longest tenured head coach in the NFL, is parting ways with the Tennessee Titans.

Shortly after the season, Titans owner Bud Adams said that Fisher would indeed stay with the team another season. It appears he has had a change of heart.

The team released a statement saying: “The Tennessee Titans and Jeff Fisher have agreed to part ways and Fisher will no longer be the head coach of the team.”

Fisher has been with the Titans since the were the freaking Houston Oilers! He has been the team’s head coach for 16 seasons. Think about what you were up to 16 years ago. I was 11 years old 16 years ago! Merlin was only55! Big Matt still hadn’t read Lord of the Rings! It’s crazy.

Seriously folks, I know this isn’t chiefs news per say but Fisher is one of the good guys in the NFL and will likely find a new job sooner rather than later. Also, with all due respect to Andy Reid, he has the best mustache in the NFL.

It appears all the head coaching jobs are locked up so Fisher may take the year off, however anything can happen in the NFL. I know one thing is for sure, I’m glad he didn’t land in the AFC West.

The Kansas city Chiefs have released their list of inactive players for today’s game against the Tennessee Titans. Thankfully, there are no surprises.

WR Quinten Lawrence, S Donald Washington, FB Mike Cox, S Reshard Langford, LB Charlie Anderson, C Rudy Niswanger, NT Anthony Toribio and QB Tyler Palko. Palko will be the emergency QB.

I am sort of interested that Donald Washington is inactive. If your read this web site you know I think Washington is garbage. Last week he tackled Dexter McCluster on special teams. That may be the reason he will be riding the pine today. Once Washington loses his value as a special teams player he pretty much loses his value.

On the plus side, Verran Tucker has been outstanding on special teams in recent weeks so look for him to step up today.

* Correction: Washington is actually out with injury, he was not benched. Still though, he sucks so it is no loss.

This is another important game for the Kansas City Chiefs and Accuscore is again prognosticating another close one. Here is what Accuscore is predicting this time:

AccuScore is forecasting a close game with the Tennessee Titans winning 46% of simulations, and the Kansas City Chiefs 54% of simulations. In close games, turnover margin is especially important. The Tennessee Titans commit fewer turnovers in 54% of simulations and they go on to win 67% when they take care of the ball. The Kansas City Chiefs wins 80% of the simulations in which they commit fewer turnovers. Chris Johnson is averaging 112 rushing yards per sim. If he can have a great game with better than average rushing yards and at least a 1 rushing TD (36% chance) then he helps his team win 71%. Jamaal Charles is averaging 61 rushing yards per sim. If he can have a great game with better than average rushing yards and at least a 1 rushing TD (23% chance) then he helps his team win 75%. SPREADS / TOTALS: Current Point Spread is KC -5 — Over/Under line is 41.5

What say you Addicts? Are we going to be able to stop Chris Johnson? Are they going to be able to stop Jamaal Charles? Don’t think for one moment that Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles want to “one up” each other. It is going to be an interesting battle, one we must win.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is playing historically good football. Patrick pointed out how his numbers this season are historic and MVP worthy in his post earlier today. However, I’m not just talking about this season. In his short three year career Charles has put up some incredible numbers. Right now he is averaging 6.0 yards per carry for his entire career. To put that in perspective, that average puts him number one overall in the history of the NFL for running backs for their career.

Bo Jackson’s career YPC average was 5.4.
Jim Brown’s was 5.2.
Barry Sanders’ was 5.0.

If you don’t want to take my word for it, here are two articles detailing just how good Jamaal Charles is. The first is an article by Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell written for ESPN about how Charles is leading the league in their DYAR and DVOA categories for running backs. I won’t try and explain it. You do have to have their insider to read the entire article. The other is by Chase Stuart and was written for the New York Times. It gives details about just how historic Jamaal Charles’ numbers are.

After Charles, the closest active RB on the YPC all time list is the Titan’s Chris Johnson at 5.0.

That means the two current active leaders in YPC will face off at Arrowhead Stadium this Sunday. The two backs have a lot in common. Charles is listed at 5-11, 199 lbs. Johnson is listed at 5-11, 191 lbs. They are both about to finish their third season in the NFL. They both are seen as explosive big play backs. The biggest difference in the two is how each of their teams have gone about using them. The question now is how much of a difference has their workload shaped their results.

A closer look at the numbers after the jump.

Before moving to Kansas and becoming a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I spent a good part of my life in Louisville, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby. We haven’t lived there in over a decade, but we still make it a point to watch the Derby every year. And every year there is one part of the race that never ceases to give me a bit of a thrill. It occurs when the horses make the final turn and are on the straightaway to the finish line. It is at that moment the announcer booms into his microphone, “And down the stretch they come!” As I look at the Chiefs with three games left, I can’t help but imagine the announcer saying those words.

To begin with, I never thought the Chiefs would make it this far. I didn’t think they were competitors for the AFC West title this year. I thought it would be at least another year. However, we started off 3-0 and in particular by defeating the heir apparent San Diego Chargers. We came out of the gate quickly and have maintained a fairly steady win pace throughout the season. The question is whether we’ve kept a good enough pace to win the AFC West.

Around this time last week I picked the 2-6 Broncos to defeat the 5-3 Chiefs because I believed Kansas City was walking into a perfect storm they simply wouldn’t be able to weather.

This week, the Arizona Cardinals had better batten down the hatches.

I am not a big believer that every loss an NFL team suffers will have an impact on the next game they play. When the Chiefs lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Oakland Raiders I did not believe they would be so devastated that they would take their frustrations out on the Denver Broncos.

You see, the Chiefs played a sloppy game in Oakland and they still nearly won the thing. Sure, the players were likely heartbroken over the loss but most of their frustrations had to be directed at themselves. It was their fault they couldn’t run out the clock and their fault they got stupid penalties. As angry as the Chiefs must have been after that loss they had to be equally pleased. Until they went to Denver, the Oakland game was the worst the Chiefs had played all season. They were absolutely awful, making more mental and physical mistakes than they had in all their other games combined. They were on the road in a hostile environment against a division rival and they still nearly pulled out the win. The message that week from the coaches was likely that the Chiefs merely needed to avoid shooting themselves in the foot. While this message wouldn’t necessarily be incorrect, it would not have provided the Chiefs with the fire they needed to go to Mile High.

No, the loss to Oakland was not going to be a wake up call to the Kansas City Chiefs. The loss to the Denver Broncos on the other hand, well that is something completely different.

The Tennessee Titans, a team the Kansas City Chiefs play later in the year, have claimed WR Randy Moss on waivers.

We found out earlier that the Chiefs were not interested when head coach Todd Haley told reporters the team did not put a claim on the receiver at his daily press conference.

Now the Chiefs will have to face Moss as a part of the Titans.

It should be noted that Moss has plenty of time to destroy the Titan’s organization well before they come to Arrowhead to face the Chiefs.

What do you think Addicts? Do you think the Chiefs will have a harder time beating the Titans now that Moss is in the picture?

The Kansas City Chiefs won’t be playing football this afternoon but that doesn’t mean you don’t have anyone to cheer for.

The rest of the AFC West is in action and the Chiefs can gain some ground if their division rivals lose. Already holding a two game lead, the Chiefs could stretch that lead without even stepping on the field.

Let’s take a look at who you’ll be cheering for today.

Denver Broncos @ Tennessee Titans

The Donkeys have traveled to Tennessee to take on the Titans. Josh McDaniels has reportedly devised a “sweet ass game plan” on Madden 11 so the Titans could be in trouble. McDaniels apparently plans to run “a lot of toss sweeps” and “engage eight” on defense. Go Titans! A Tennessee win would make the Donkey’s 1-3. More after the jump. (more…)

The Tennessean, citing unnamed sources, reported Monday that the Titans have agreed to a four-year deal with guard Jake Scott, who played the past four seasons for the Indianapolis Colts.

Scott, 26, started 55 straight games for Indianapolis. His new deal with the Titans will average $5 million per season, the Tennessean reported.

This takes another OL off the market for the Chiefs. After doing a five hour live blog (yeah, thats right, it was five hours) yesterday and talking with other Chief fans, I have concluded that the Chiefs have to at least sign one free agent offensive lineman. If we wait and think we can draft two to three OL starters, then the Chiefs are crazy. We need to at least bring in somebody with a chance to start so we do not handcuff ourselves on draft day. That will force us to reach the entire draft and we know what reaching does for you in the draft, just take a look at the Dick Vermeil drafts.
