If you missed my piece on Friday about our top picks last year, I just don’t get you. I mean seriously, were you living under a rock all weekend? Why don’t you stop being such a loser and spend some more time on the Internet?

Just playin’, gang. Hard-hitting fake journalism it was not. More of a discussion, really. Every year, immediately after the draft, I like to line all the picks up in my mind and try to predict who will do what. The way I picture it is with someone (Jesus?) telling me, “you will get three starters from this draft class” and then a light blinks on after three players’ names. And of course, it would never play out exactly as you think. Who will do what? Knowledge that only the years can bring. Forbidden fruit, of a sort.

Think about that 2008 class, for instance. What if, after all those picks were made, someone had told you there were two Pro Bowlers and three additional starters in there? Wouldn’t it have been thrilling to try to figure out who was who? We could never have foreseen Charles’ amazing 2010, or that Brandon Carr would be signing a $50 million deal four years later. And whatever you say now, nobody would have believed Glenn Dorsey would have had only four sacks after 61 starts*.

*Say this for Dorsey, he has been durable. Remember all the concern over his knee? He couldn’t participate in the Combine, right? I vividly recall a shot of him running between cones during the LSU Pro Day with Herm Edwards in the background, nodding like an idiot.

On Friday, we guessed what our top picks in the 2011 draft might do. I moved all in on Allen Bailey and expressed concerns about Jonathan Baldwin. In this, the second part, I’d like to take a look at rounds 4-7. In all likelihood, there is a diamond in the rough somewhere in there. A gift, if you will. A gift to the foes of Mordor…..

God help us indeed.

I said yesterday that Scott Pioli needed to make a bold move to replace the gaping hole left by the loss of safety Eric Berry.

So he re-signed Reshard Langford.

The team announced today that they re-signed Langford, one of the players lost in the last round of roster cuts. They also brought back FB Shane Bannon and put him on the practice squad.

We can only hope that Langford is a short-term answer to a long-term problem. It makes sense in a way, to get Langford in because he knows the defensive system well enough to possibly contribute by Sunday.

Then again, it’d also be nice to see the Chiefs go after someone who can help them more over the course of the rest of the season. You know…someone other than a guy with five career tackles that they cut in order to keep Sabby Piscitelli, Jon McGraw and freaking Donald Washington.

Bannon, you may remember was the Chiefs’ 7th round draft pick. A FB out of Yale, Bannon was not even on the radar of most scouts. A last second surge , however, got him some attention and the Chiefs took a chance on him.

Not a bad deal for Bannon here. He is likely signed for the rookie minimum but he gets a nice little bonus. If he makes the team, he’ll be a bargain for the Chiefs for four years.

To say the Kansas City Chiefs’ fullback position is full would be an understatement. It is not unusual for any NFL team to carry just one fullback (or even no fullback a la Detroit Lions/Barry Sanders). Last year the Chiefs carried two; Mike Cox and Tim Castille. (It could be argued they carried three (3) if you count big Jackie Battle who has played fullback in the past).

Since last year, The Kansas City Chiefs have drafted another fullback: 7th round pick Shane Bannon. As it stands now (presumably) we have 3 fullbacks on the roster (four (4) if you count Mr. Battle). There’s not much room on the roster for these boys.

More after the jump…

Some people, analysts and fans alike, did not like the direction the Chiefs took in the draft. One of the concerns is that the Chiefs traded out of the 21st pick when offensive tackles Anthony Castonzo and Gabe Carimi were both available. The Chiefs eventually took Jonathan Baldwin, who has character concerns of his own, at the 26th pick in the first round.

There could be arguments made all day about whether the Chiefs selected the right players in the 2011 NFL Draft. The truth of the matter is the draft is over and the players that were selected are the players the Chiefs are stuck with. Each of these players brings something different and unique to the Chiefs roster, so without further ado lets dive into each draft picks role and expectations entering the 2011 NFL season.

On Day Three of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs had five picks. Anyone chosen on this day should, generally, be considered a developmental prospect. So let’s take a look at what talent the Chiefs have to develop.

The Chiefs’ fourth round pick of defensive back Jalil Brown may not have been an exciting pick, but is a move that could show instant rewards in the coming season. The NFL is a passing league and a team can never have enough quality DBs. Brown adds depth not only at cornerback but also at the safety position. This versatility is quite possibly one of the reasons the Chiefs drafted him since it is a Scott Pioli Draft buzzword.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made some surprising and shrewd picks in the 2011 NFL Draft but perhaps their selection of Yale FB shane Bannon was the most surprising and shrewd of them all.

Bannon was totally unknown by NFL teams until just a few weeks ago. At 6’2, 265, Bannon was an athletic FB that nobody knew about until he tagged along for a workout in front of an agent with a Yale teammate.

From Adam Caplan of Fox Sports:

Bannon (6-2, 265) lined up mostly offset in Yale’s offense, but when he did line up as a true fullback, he was a very physical blocker. He’s also a really strong special teams player.

Bannon was discovered just a few weeks ago, but indirectly.

“Well, him being a Yale guy, he’s (NFL player agent Joe Linta) always trying to help out Yale guys, he was working out one of our defensive ends, Sean Williams, and I kind of was tagging along,” Bannon told FOXSports.com. “We had a mock pro day. He saw I moved pretty well for a player of my size, so he probably was surprised.”

There is a Wall Street Journal article that you can read here that talks a lot about Bannon’s struggle to get noticed by NFL Scouts.

Bannon could be another steal for Pioli in the Chiefs. His athleticism and size makes him a candidate to play FB, TE and HB. This could be a pretty exciting 7th round pick.

What do you think Chiefs fans?
