So we have some kind of important game tonight, right?  Who is our opponent again?

You’re going to have plenty of Chiefs/Chargers articles to read today, Addicts, so I thought I’d switch things up a bit.  Normally Big Matt Monday focuses on the previous day’s game.  Since there was no game on the lord’s day this week, I’m free to go off the reservation.  What follows is a day-by-day account of the week I spent undercover as a cleaning lady in Clark Hunt’s Texas mansion.

Just kidding.  “Operation: Wipe Clark’s Butt” did not go as planned.  My costume was choice, but when Mrs. Hunt asked me my name I choked and said Junior Siavii.  Things got pretty hairy.  I ended up having to stab one of my fellow cleaning ladies just to create a diversion and get out of there.  Sweet Consuela.  I’ll miss her.  She taught me so much.

I think the Chiefs will win tonight.  Of course, I thought they’d win last season’s playoff game, too.  Whenever the Chiefs look decent, I let myself believe they’re really good.  I’m a sucker that way.  I’ve seen three wins, my brain has me believing the fourth is in the bag.  But this is still the Chargers.  What can I say, it’s going to be a very exciting game.

Sometimes with a game like this on the horizon, I get so keyed up that focusing on anything else (or even eating) becomes difficult.  So I thought it might be nice to take a break from stressing about tonight’s showdown, and take a leisurely stroll through some recent Chiefs history.  After le jump, my list of the best and worst Chiefs personnel moves of the aughts*.

*For the purposes of this exercise, “aughts” will refer to 2001-2010.  Brian Waters was signed in 2000, and I didn’t want to have to include that, while excluding 2010.  I think we can all agree it’s far more interesting to discuss 2010 at this point.  2011, however, cannot be included, as we don’t yet have enough data to evaluate that offseason.

Way to go Carl…

Three-year starter that saw extensive action as a true freshman. All-Conference selection as a senior when he totaled 43/7.5/5. Registered 52/9/6 and 33/6/1 as a junior and sophomore respectively. Explosive interior lineman effective defending the run or rushing the passer. Quick off the snap with a great first step, plays with forward lean , leverage and consistently keeps his pads low to the ground. Keeps his feet moving up the field and strong in his lower body. Effectively uses his hands to stay off blocks, wedges his way through the small creases and relentless in his pursuit of the action. Quick changing his angle of attack, redirects to the ballcarrier and explosive moving up the field. Constantly focused on or double-teamed by opponents. Not strong in his upper body, gets locked up with opponents or engulfed at the point of attack. Usually beats opposing lineman with his first step, or has difficulty beating them at all. Has the frame that could add more bulk and size as he physically matures, which will round him into a force at the next level. A line prospect with a great future. Early First Round.

Early first round is the only projection anyone got right. Except me! I had it right! When I heard Sims was to become a Chief I ran over to my friend Gerald’s cubicle and proclaimed it to be a mistake of epic proportions! I told him Sims was lazy! I told him that Sims would take the money and turn into a sloth. I told Gerald! Thats the way I remember it anyway.

Per PFT and his agent, Former Jaguars DT, John Henderson,  (the man we passed up to select Ryan Sims), will visit the Chiefs on Tuesday.  Could this behemoth of a DT be the answer for the Chiefs’ 3-4 NT woes?   Thoughts?

Update: Henderson told Nick Wright today on “What’s Wright,” that he will visit the Chiefs Wednesday and not Tuesday.

Drafting him with the sixth overall pick in 2002 completely obliterated any chance the Dick Vermeil era had at succeeding. But that’s not what pisses me off. What pisses me off is how nonchalant Sims always was about football. He simply has never cared. Not. One. Bit.

I remember when I saw him in the Phoenix airport with like six shopping full bags of clothes, sporting brand new Jordans and ridiculous bling. I’m not being a hater. What I’m saying is that if dude ever cared half as much about football as he did “pimpin’,” the Chiefs would have never hit rock bottom at 2-14. The only thing “phatter” than his watch was his gut. Dude looked out of shape for the kind of defensive tackle he was projected to be (Albert Haynesworth, John Henderson, etc…). The next Warren Sapp? He was only interested in being the next Warren Buffett. Or Warren G. Or both.

The guy has always been a clown, and a selfish one at that. He never cared all that much about football, and seemed to care even less about the Chiefs. Ryan Sims cares about one thing and one thing only — getting P-A-I-D.

That’s why I find it hilarious that Sims is now trying to be a “reporter” for YB. You know what, though, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him chase down a quarterback like he attempted to chase down Marcellus Wiley, aka Dat Dude. Maybe Wiley didn’t even know who he was? I mean, why should he? Sims is a scrub. He’s simply trying to blow up his profile so he can line up some post-NFL income.

Did I mention that Sims is the biggest pile of steaming 6-foot-4 sh** ever stacked that high?

4. On Monday, Buccaneers defensive tackle Ryan Sims made his first start since the 2005 season. On Monday, Carolina running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart combine to rush for 301 yards.

Coincidence?

Not if you followed Sims’ Kansas City career. After Sims’ five seasons in Kansas City, I’m not sure why any team would give him a contract as a backup. Monte Kiffin is supposed to be some sort of defensive genius. I’d love to hear him explain what makes Sims an NFL-caliber defensive tackle.
