This may come as a surprise to you all, but: an Oakland Raider is going to jail.

Rolando McClain is that Raider.

Oakland Raiders linebacker and first round draft pick Rolando McClain has been arrested in Decatur, Alabama.

McClain, who was evidently in Alabama to attend his grandfather’s funeral was present at the scene of a fight where a man was shot.

The news has been trickling out throughout the afternoon. At first it was just being reported that McClain was present and that the police were investigating.

Now we are hearing that McClain has been arrested.

Decatur Police Lt. John Crouch told Comcast SportsNet that McClain is in jail.

“I can tell you that Rolando McClain is under arrest,” Crouch said. “He’s been charged with third degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm in city limits. He is still in custody.”

Since the end of the season we have been talking non-stop NFL Draft. I was brought on board here at AA in mid December, so pretty much my entire time here has been spent covering the offseason coaching moves and the Draft.

Source: frontier.com

Upon my hire, I set a goal to get press credentials for the NFL Draft so that AA could bring you the most in depth coverage possible.

Mission accomplished.

I will be in Radio City Music Hall all weekend bring you live coverage. When you log in to AA tonight you will see 2 permanent fixtures at the top of the page. First will be a live chat ran by the AA staff were we can all chime in as a group on what is happening. Below that, you will find my Draft Diary. I will update the Diary throughout the night, with random thoughts and observations from inside Radio City Music Hall. Be sure to check it and check it often. After the chat and Draft Diary, you will find the usual coverage you have come to expect from AA.. We’ll have everything from staff reactions and news post to live pictures and video interviews. Now, on to my predictions.

I’ve gone through what seems like every single possible scenario for the Chiefs 5th pick in the drafting to spend a I have advocated for everyone from safety Eric Berry to nose tackle. I have looked at it from every angle I could think of and still probably haven’t looked at it the same way the Chiefs and Scott Pioli are looking at it.

My preference is that the Chiefs find a way to trade back. The team has many needs and this is a deep draft. Trading back will net KC extra picks and save them from having to spend a bundle on 1 player taken in the top 5. Still, a prediction must be made…and it is after the jump.

You’ve read my 7-round big board. Several things, I’m sure, were startling about it. But judging from the comments, none moreso than listing Alabama ILB Rolando McClain as a middle-of-the-second-round prospect. It’s true, I really feel that way.

So let me get this out of the way. I really don’t like the idea of selecting Alabama ILB Rolando McClain with the #5 overall. I really don’t like the idea of selecting Alabama ILB Rolando McClain #7 overall after trading down with Cleveland. I really don’t like the idea of selecting Alabama ILB Rolando McClain #9 overall after trading down with Buffalo.

I dislike this pick more than drafting Bryan Bulaga, which is saying something. I just plain don’t like the idea of selecting Rolando McClain with anything less than our “2b” pick, although it’s obviously a less egregious error if we select him at “2a.”

More, after the jump. (more…)

With regards to our first couple of picks, I have been thinking, over thinking, flipping and flopping back and forth over the selection. I have been overanalyzing it to the extreme, and that seems to be the problem.

Without simplifying the process too much, wouldn’t you all agree that most draft picks are based upon two things: need and best player available?

If those are the two criteria which are most important when considering a draft pick, can’t we safely assume that the Chiefs will not be taking the best player available, but selecting solely upon need with the first three picks?

Remember my last mock when I suggested the Rams would take Clausen, a QB at #1? Remember when you all said I should have my head examined? Who’s laughing now, eh? I might have had the QB wrong but I wasn’t insane to suggest that the Rams might pass on Suh and take a signal caller.

I also suggested that the Bills might trade up with the Chiefs to aquire Sam Bradford. I was called daft for that as well. Not so crazy these days, is it?

OK, gloating aside, there were also plenty of things I was off base about. But hey, that is the fun of doing these things, no? I hope you enjoy reading these mocks as much as we enjoy coming up with them.

Each mock inevitably brings in new readers that are fans of other teams. To those folks I say welcome to Arrowhead Addict. We are happy to have you. Please, however, keep in mind that this is a Chiefs site, so if we get your teams pick wrong, chilax. Remember, this is all make-believe. I suggest, if you are going to comment, tell us what you think your team should do and add to the discussion, instead of wasting a perfectly thoughts in favor calling me a moron and declaring this the worst mock draft since Mel Kiper’s hair started looking ridiculous. Cheers!

If the Rams were watching the playoffs last year and I know they were because they sure weren’t in them, they saw the caliber of QB it takes to succeed in the NFL. Manning, Brees, Favre, Rivers, Brady. There were some injury concerns about Bradford but those appear to be waning. He absolutely dazzled folks at the Combine with his size and character. Granted, he didn’t throw but unless his arm falls off at the shoulder at his pro day, this kid has a very big chance of going #1.

That scream of glee you hear when the Rams draft Bradford, that will be Cunningham.

I am baffled when I see mock drafts that have the redskins picking a LT like Okung here to protect Jason Campbell. That is like trying to convince Jamarcus Russel to show up to camp thinner than Tom Cable. It ain’t gonna happen. Old rat face made his bacon in Denver by somehow creating a running game out of thin air with any HB who happen to be standing on his sideline. He took an entire offensive line cast off by the Browns and made them decent. No, I have changed my mind on this. Shanahan is not going to roll with Jason Campell. I wouldn’t put it past Shanni to pull a fast one and snatch up Chad Pennington for a year to have him run a bootleg extravaganza but I think if Clausen is there he is going to take him and get to work on terrorizing the NFC.
