Remember our boy Quentin Lawrence? He was drafted as a WR. After a couple years of sucking at that, he is taking his last pro-football gasps by switching to DB. Remember, they always say DB’s are failed receivers. In that case, maybe Lawrence still has a chance. Here is some footage courtesy of Ryan James.

Chiefs Promote Lawrence, Cut Richardson

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a last minute roster move ahead of Sunday’s game, promoting WR Quinten Lawrence to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and cutting CB Mike Richardson in the process.

Richardson was signed a few weeks ago when the Chiefs were dealing with a rash of injuries in their secondary. With most of the roster healthy at this point the Chiefs may have felt they no longer needed Richardson and decided to call up Lawrence.

I don’t think the move indicates that there are any injury concerns with the KC receivers. Kansas City currently has Dwayne Bowe, Verran Tucker, Chris Chambers, Terrence Copper and Dexter McCluster available at receiver so even if one of the wideouts were hurt a roster move wouldn’t be necessary.

Lawrence may see the field today in special teams action but I doubt we see him on the field with the offense.

Chiefs Claim Nose Tackle, Release WR Quinten Lawrence

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a couple of more transactions today claiming nose tackle Anthony Toribio (pronounced tuh-RIB-ee-oh) off waivers from the Green Bay Packers. To make room for Toribio, the Chiefs released wide receiver Quinten Lawrence. Toribio was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins in in 2008 and spent the last 2 seasons with Green Bay. From KCChiefs.com:

Toribio (6-1, 315) played in one game with Green Bay in 2009 after originally entering the NFL as a rookie free agent with Miami in 2008. He recorded 59 tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks in four seasons at Carson-Newman. Toribio earned all-state honors as a senior at Miami Central High School in Miami, Florida.

You may remember recently I told you the Chiefs were cutting ties with members of the disappointing 2009 draft class. Yesterday the team released Colin Brown and Javarris Williams and now that Lawrence is gone, only five of the eight rookies taken in 2009 remain.

Something tells me the Chiefs aren’t finished shaking up the roster. The departure of Lawrence and the placement of Jerehemy Urban on IR leaves the Chiefs dangerously shallow at WR.
