The Kansas City Chiefs were the worst team in the NFL at the end of the 2012 season but the offseason has brought enough change that experts seem to think that KC is better, at least on paper.

Fox Sports analyst and former head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, Brian Billick, has released his post-draft power rankings. Given their putrid 2-14, record, presumably the Chiefs were at or near the bottom of Billick’s rankings when the season ended.

But not any more.

22. Kansas City Chiefs

Eric Fisher wasn’t the sexiest of draft picks, but he will be a long-term fixture at left tackle and will allow Brandon Albert to play his more natural position of left tackle . . . if he isn’t traded in the meantime. This team has a talented roster and Andy Reid should help that correlate to wins on Sunday.

I like these rankings a lot, mostly because Billick is an ex-coach, as opposed to a grouping of media talking heads. He clearly sees that the Chiefs are a talented team with some new pieces in place.

As for the other AFC West teams, the Chiefs managed to come in ahead of the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders. The Chargers came in one spot behind the Chiefs at #23 and the Raiders are all the way down at #32! Considering both the Chargers and Raiders swept the Chiefs last season, I am not sure that is totally fair but I’ll take what I can get.

The Broncos are still kings of the AFC West, at least according to Billick. They rank #2.

What do you think, Addicts? Is 22 a fair ranking for the Chiefs?

The draft is over and with the bulk of free agency in the books as well, the retooled teams that will take the field this September are starting to come into focus.

And that means Power Rankings. Glorious, glorious Power Rankings.

Hey, cut us some slack. It’s May!

NFL.com has released its ranks and predictably, the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants come in at #1, with the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots nipping at their heels.

But what about our beloved Chiefs?

#15.

Even Steven.

Here is what they had to say:

The Chiefs had a good offseason in more ways than one. For starters, they’re getting everybody back healthy. Second, signing Eric Winston and Kevin Boss to go along with another solid draft makes this team look like Denver’s biggest threat in the AFC West. Yes, they signed Peyton Hillis, as well. They needed another slow running back to fill the Thomas Jones void.

First of all, I’d like to address the shot they took at Thomas Jones.

If you’ve been reading this site for any amount of time, you know that the staff here at Arrowhead Addict has been a long-time Jones supporter. It was us who championed the “More Touches For Jones, Fewer For Charles” campaign back in the fall of 2010. It was also us driving the “Punching Out One Rookie Isn’t Enough, Hit Rodney Hudson Too” bandwagon. We here at Arrowhead Addict still believe in Thom Jones and we think the Chiefs will re-sign him this offseason. Like last season, we support an even lighter Jones in 2012. We know that if he can just get down to, say, 106 pounds, he should be swift enough to keep up his intimidating 3.0 yards per carry average. AA staffer Big Matt has already started the process. He’s got Jones locked up in his basement and is feeding him a strict diet of whiskey and cigarettes, while forcing him to watch old episodes of The Golden Girls.

Now that that is out of the way, I like this #15 ranking. I like that nobody quite knows what to make of the Chiefs. I like that the Denver Donkeys are ranked #10 simply because they got an aging QB who hasn’t played football in over a year and has had his neck fused which is something I can’t even picture in my mind’s eye and let me assure you, I have a very keen mind’s eye.

I don’t want the Chiefs to be a favorite heading into the season. In the NFL, the favorites don’t always fare so well. Often, as we’ve seen recently with the Giants and the Cardinals back during the Herm era, it is the solidly built football team nobody is paying much attention to that gets hot at the right time and makes a run of things.

As for the rest of the AFC West, the Faiders and the Dolts came in at #20 and 21 respectively. It seems as though the folks at NFL.com, unlike others in the media, have realized that the Chargers haven’t been good enough to win the division in a couple of years and that the time might have come to stop calling them the most talented, underachieving team in the NFL and to just start calling them what they are.

A mediocre team with a terrible coach.

What do you think Addicts? How does a #15 ranking sit with you this far our from the first game of the season. Furthermore, how much damage do you think a 106 pound Thomas Jones hopped up on Bea Arther reruns can do in today’s NFL?

The Kansas City Chiefs spent a lot of time at the bottom of various Power Rankings lists recently but in 2010, they finally earned some respect by winning ten games and capturing the AFC West Championship.

Yeah, most of that good will is gone.

Following four preseason performances that inspired hope only in Chargers, Broncos and Raiders fans, the Chiefs have slid in ESPN.com’s weekly NFL Power Rankings. The were 14th in the offseason Power Ranks and now slide to 18th for Week One of the 2011 NFL season.

Frankly, I don’t blame the “experts” for being a bit weary of the Chiefs. They got stomped in their last two games last season and looked dreadful in their first four in 2011. Even winning ten games won’t win you many points when you have six bad games in a row.

A bit more after the jump.

Addicts, for those of us that have been to games at Arrowhead Stadium I think it is fair to say that the experience is something that is far above and beyond most if not all other venues in any sport in the US. There is definitely something special about the tailgating, the Sea of Red, the crowd noise, the Hall of Honor, and the list keeps on going. Yea, the fans of Kansas City’s NFL team are blessed indeed with a pretty bitchin’ venue to see our gladiators do battle with other cities.

This post isn’t about all of those awesome things though. As I have gone to more and more sporting events I have noticed that although the Arrowhead Experience puts all others to shame there are some very cool things done in other sports that the Chiefs and NFL in general could learn from.

A sport by sport breakdown after the jump.

ESPN.com has released it’s final Power Rankings of the NFL regular season and the Kansas City Chiefs are holding strong at #11.

The Chiefs are the next to last ranked playoff team. The Seattle Seahawks are in the tournament and are languishing all the way down at #19. Yes, a 7-9 team is in the playoffs. Kind of embarrassing for the NFL.

The Chiefs finish the season as the highest ranked AFC West team. The San Diego Chargers come in at #14, just ahead of the Oakland Raiders at #15. The Denver Broncos bring up the rear at #29.

What else would you expect from a team with an ass for a mascot?

Finishing off at #11 isn’t bad for the Chiefs, who were ranked #27 in the Week 1 Power Rankings. Not a bad jump.

What do you think Addicts? Did the Chiefs get a fair shake at #11?

ESPN.com has released it’s weekly Power Rankings (a day late because of Tuesday night football) and despite clinching the AFC West title with a win and a Chargers loss, the Kansas City Chiefs have stayed put.

The Chiefs come in once again at #11 despite a convincing victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 16.

In fact, other than the St. Louis Rams at #16, the Chiefs are the lowest ranked team of what figures to be the 12 NFL playoff teams. Ahead of them are, in order, the Patriots, Falcons, Ravens, Saints, Steelers, Bears, Eagles, Jets, Packers and Colts.

As for the rest of the AFC West, the San Diego Chargers come in at #14 after being ranked #10 just a week ago. The Oakland Raiders aren’t far behind at #17 and the Denver Broncos continue to languish at the bottom, ranked #31 despite Tim Tebow’s solid play in a victory against the Houston Texans last week.

What do you think Addicts? Are the Chiefs getting a fair shake or will they have to do some damage in the postseason before they get any major props?

ESPN.com has released it’s weekly Power Rankings and the Kansas City Chiefs are on the rise.

The Chiefs took quite a tumble two weeks ago following their embarrassing loss to the Chargers in San Diego.

This week, however, the Chiefs are moving on up. They jumped from #14 all the way to #11.

Long the highest ranked team in the AFC West, the Chiefs are now considered inferior to the Chargers (at least in these rankings) as San Diego ranks one spot ahead at #10.

The next closest team is the Oakland Raiders, all the way down at #17. The Raiders are 7-7 and will be eliminated from playoff contention this weekend with a loss or a Kansas City win.

Bringing up the rear, as they have for most of the season, are the Denver Donkeys Broncos. Denver has reached an all new low this week, sliding down to #31 our out of #32. Only the hapless Carolina Panthers are ranked worse.

What do you think Addicts? Are the Chiefs ranked fairly this week?

over the Denver Broncos.

The Chiefs moved up from #12 a week ago to #11, thanks mostly to their 3-game winning streak. There was no discrepancy in the voting this week as all four experts tanked the Chiefs #11 on their ballots.

KC remains the highest ranked AFC West team with their next opponent, the San Diego Chargers being the next closest at #14.

Curiously, the Chargers are ranked higher than the Oakland Raiders, a team that has beaten them twice and has the exact same record. How does that work? The folks at ESPN need to have their heads examined. If I were part of Raider Nation I’d throw myself off a bridge but before I did, I’d be mad about these power rankings.

Speaking of the Raiders, the sit two spots behind the Chargers at #16.

Bringing up the rear, as they have done most of the season, are the coachless Denver Broncos at #28.

What do you think Addicts? Are the Chiefs getting a fair shake here or have they earned their way to at least a top 10 ranking?

Lastly, the team that smashed the Chiefs, the Denver Broncos, rose four spots from #29 to #26.

What do you think Addicts? Is KC’s ranking fair or should they have dropped farther after Sunday’s embarrassing performance?

The Kansas City Chiefs have spent most of the 2010 season moving up in the ESPN.com Power Rankings.Unfortunately for the Chiefs, losing to the Oakland Raiders doesn’t win you any admirers.

The Chiefs have fallen from #11 a week ago to #14 this week. The team that beat them, the Oakland Raiders, are now the highest ranked AFC West team, coming in at #12. They were ranked 16th before defeating the Chiefs.

The Chargers, who appear to have finally remembered how to play football, are ranked 16th and climbing.

KC’s next opponent, the lowly Denver Broncos, come in at #29.

What do you think, Addicts? Did ESPN get it right?

Last week the Chiefs were ranked #12, however with a win over the Bills they have leapfrogged the Philadelphia Eagles to take over the 11 slot.

KC remains the highest ranked AFC West team but the Oakland Raiders are gaining some ground, now ranked #16.

Despite a win at home over the Tennessee Titans, the San Diego Chargers are still way down on the list ranked #22 behind the likes of the Seahawks, Rams and Jaguars.

Bringing up the rear are the Denver Tebows at #28. They rank only ahead of the Cowboys, 49ers, Panthers and Bills.

What do you think Addicts? Are the Chiefs ranked correctly?

ESPN.com has released their weekly Power Rankings and the Chiefs have moved up a bit after their victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Chiefs moved up one slot from #13 to #12 this week.KC is the highest ranked AFC West team by far. The next closest team is the Oakland Raiders coming in at #23. They are followed by the Chargers at #24 and the Denver Broncos bring up the rear at #27.

Interestingly the Chiefs at 4-2 sit behind a couple of teams with three losses in the Packers (4-3) and Eagles (4-3).

The other teams in front of the Chiefs all lot either one or two games.

What do you think Addicts? Is the Chiefs ranking fair? Should they be moved ahead of the Packers and Eagles? Sound off.

11. Kansas City Chiefs (3-2) Speaking of still not sold, the Chiefs defense looked good for three quarters. Then the 4th quarter hit and everything went down hill. Matt Cassel had a very good game, as did Dwayne Bowe. They have to be the favorites in the AFC West.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been gaining more and more national attention even after losing two straight games. The reason seems to be because their play in these last two games, on the road against tough opponents, has been competitive.

We’ve been tracking the Chiefs performance in the ESPN.com Power Rankings exclusivlely since the begining of the season. I thought we would branch out a little bit today to see how KC is doing in some other ranks.

First up is Fox Sports.com. The Chiefs were ranked 12th in last week’s rankings. Where are they after their second straight loss?

Find out after the jump.

ESPN is finally climbing aboard the Chiefs Express. Todd Haley’s team climbed 5 spots from 15th to 10th without even playing a game.

Being the last unbeaten team in the NFL will do that for you.

What do you think Addicts? Is the #10 raking fair? How high might the Chiefs go if they can take out the Colts? How low might they fall if they lose?
