According to multiple reports, former Miami Dolphins safety Yeremiah Bell has signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets.

Bell had met with a handful of teams, the Chiefs included, before settling on NY. Bell’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said yesterday that he (Bell) would be choosing between the four teams, however we have no idea if the Chiefs ever actually offered Bell a contract. Rosenhaus may have just said that to get one of the teams that did make an offer to up that offer.

Regardless, the Chiefs will have to seek their safety depth elsewhere. I am all for KC grabbing a veteran backup but after looking at how Bell performed last season, I’m not sure he would have been any help to the Chiefs.

So…what is Jon McGraw doing these days?

According to a report from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, former Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Todd Haley will likely not be joining the offensive staff of the New York Jets.

There had been reports that Haley would join former Miami Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano, who was recently hired as the Jets’ offensive coordinator, as an offensive assistant. The thinking was that Sparano would focus on the running game while Haley would coordinate the passing attack.

According to Mehta, Haley and the Jets came to a “mutual decision.”

You have to wonder if the recent report from the Kansas City Star alleging that Haley believed Chiefs GM Scott Pioli was bugging his office and phones might have made the Jets wary of bringing Haley on board.

There have also been reports that Haley has met with the Arizona Cardinals and that he could return to the team he helped reach the Super Bowl before coming to Kansas City.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley is going to interview with the New York Jets.

There had been reports that Haley might return to Arizona but those rumors have since cooled.

According to Schefter, the Jets may hire former Dolphins coach Tony Sporano as their new offensive coordinator and that Haley could come on board as assistant head coach. Haley and Sporano have worked together in the past, and there is some feeling that the two could team up in NY with Sporano working on the run game, and Haley having input on the passing attack.

Haley has worked in NY before and this would be something of a homecoming for him. Plus he might fit in nicely with Rex Ryan’s in-your-face demeanor.

UPDATE:

ESPN is reporting that Sgt. Brian Polite has said the incident was “was not a Jets-Chiefs melee.” Polite says that witnesses reported there was no indication the attackers were Chiefs fans.

A Queens man was attacked and beaten by a group of fans, <del>one of whom was wearing a Chiefs jersey</del>, following Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets.

From the New York Post:

A diehard Jets fan was savagely beaten on his own turf by a drunken gang of Kansas City Chiefs fans after their team was trounced on Sunday — with one of the assailants barking “F–k New York” and “You all deserved what happened on 9/11!” the victim’s distraught family told The Post.

James Mohr, 23, a physical-education teacher at the Bronx Guild vocational high school, was wearing his Jetss gear after the team’s 37-10 victory as he walked through Parking Lot J at MetLife Stadium when a woman standing with a pack of thugs screamed the vile taunts.

The Kansas City Chiefs got demolished by the New York Jets Sunday.

The rout was on pretty much from the beginning when the Chiefs allowed the Jets to march down the field on their first drive for a TD.

The Chiefs managed to pull within four after a great Dustin Colquitt punt and a three and out by the Jets allowed the Chiefs to get close enough for a 53-yard FG from Ryan Succop.

The KC defense managed to get another stop before Tyler Palko threw an interception to set the Jets up with favorable field position. NY would take advantage and punch the ball in for a 14-3 lead.

From there the KC offense pretty much gave the game away. They failed to move the ball at all, keeping a tired Chiefs defense on the field. The game was over at halftime.

There was some hope that Todd Haley would give Ricky Stanzi a chance to spark the offense but he stuck with Palko and the Chiefs continued to lose.

We’ll have more later but for now, join us for the Arrowhead Addict Chiefs Post Game show live at 3:30 central on Block Talk Radio.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Kyle Orton played only one snap last week against the Chicago Bears before dislocating his finger.

Orton rode the pine the rest of that game, but the Chiefs still managed to win with Tyler Palko at QB.

It looks like they’ll have to do it again this week.

Orton is listed as doubtful on the Chiefs’ final injury report. He was limited in practice all week so it is unlikely that he would be worth much this week even if his finger suddenly felt 100 percent.

If Orton is out then the Chiefs will once again roll with Tyler Palko and Ricky “never gonna see the field” Stanzi.

The rest of the KC injury report is after the jump.

The Chiefs don’t play the Jets a whole lot so to help get you ready for the game I sat down with Marc Greenberg, editor of The Jet Press. Marc churns out tons of great Jets content on a weekly basis and his site is essential when it comes to getting up-to-the-minute news coverage.

To help fans look, smell and feel their best while cheering on the Chiefs this Sunday, AXE is excited to offer readers two sets of red and yellow AXE products.

If you haven’t heard yet, teams other than the Kansas City Chiefs are picking in the 2011 NFL Draft. In fact, those teams play a very important role in the Chiefs’ draft since the Chiefs don’t pick in the top 5 this year. Who the 20 teams before us pick can have a significant impact on who we draft. So, for those wondering why I don’t think AJ Green or Julio Jones will be there for us at 21, take a look at one way I see the first round of the Draft going.

There is only one game that matters remaining in the 2010 NFL season, and the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t in it. Instead, we will see the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers duke it out in Dallas at the Super Bowl. Instead of pouting about how the Chiefs didn’t make it to the big game, we should take the opportunity to get a good look at why the Packers and Steelers made. Those teams have demonstrated how to get to a Super Bowl. We need to see what we can learn from them so that in the coming years, we can there as well.

Many different kinds of teams can get to the Super Bowl. Just look at the difference between the teams that went last year compared to the teams that made it this year. However, there are similarities between the Packers and the Steelers that I will highlight so that we can determine where the Chiefs fell short this year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers held off a rallying New York Jets team to win the AFC Championship and the chance to win their organizations seventh Super Bowl title.

The Jets looked dead in the water after falling behind 24-3 in the first half. In the second half however, the Jets came out firing and the held the Steelers scoreless while mounting a furious comeback. NY managed to pull within 5 points before the Steelers offense got a couple of key first downs and ran out the clock.

The Steelers will go on to take on the NFC Champion Green Bay Packers who held off a comeback attempt by the Chicago Bears earlier in the day.For the Packers it will be their first Super Bowl appearance since the Bret Favre era and for the Steelers it will be their second Super Bowl appearance in three years.

As such, the Kansas City Chiefs’ path to the Super Bowl is now clear. If the Chiefs manage to defeat the Baltimore Ravens tomorrow afternoon, they will then travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. Should they win that game, they will advance to the AFC Championship game.

If the Patriots beat the Jets, the AFC Championship will be in New England.

If the Jets beat the Patriots (and the Chiefs knock off the Ravens and Steelers) the AFC Championship game would be held at Arrowhead Stadium!

When the Kansas City Chiefs secured first place in the AFC West Sunday, they also secured themselves a first place schedule in 2011.

That means that while we won’t know the order of the games for some time, we can pretty much determine what teams the Chiefs will play next year right now.

Basically each team’s schedule is predetermined years in advance except for two games. Each season, the Chiefs play their own division twice and one AFC division and one NFC division on a rotating basis. Those games account for 14 of KC’s 16 games. The 2 extra games will come from the two AFC divisions the Chiefs aren’t playing that year. Those teams are chosen based on where they finished the previous season.

For example, this season the Chiefs were set to play the AFC South and the NFC West. Since they finished in last place in the AFC West, they played the two teams that finished in last in the AFC East (Bills) and AFC North (Browns). The San Diego Chargers on the other hand, finished in first place last year so they played the first place teams from the AFC East (Patriots) and the AFC North (Bengals).

So who are the Chiefs playing in 2011? Find out after the jump.

The Kansas City Chiefs clinched the AFC West title a week ahead of schedule and now they face some interesting questions heading into Week 17.

As I sat here drinking my AFC West victory beer beers, I got to thinking about who the Chiefs might play in the playoffs. Given the situation, the Chiefs could, maybe, technically, choose who they want to play in the first round of the playoffs and beyond.

Basically the Chiefs are either going to be the 3rd or 4th seed in the playoffs. If they win next week when the play the Raiders, they will guarantee themselves the #3 seed. That means they will host the #6 seed, which is certain to be the New York Jets.

If the Chiefs really like their chances against the Jets, then they can send their starters out on Sunday and do everything they can to beat the Raiders while trying to avoid injuries.

More stuff that will make you go cross-eyed after the jump.

Thanks to our good friends at TGI Friday’s, we are going to have a series of sponsored posts on the weekend’s best games. We’ll start with the obvious choice first.

Kansas City Chiefs (5-3) at Denver Broncos (2-6)

The Broncos may be pretty much out of the running for the AFC West title bit a Kansas City loss would throw the division into chaos. The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders have been closing the gap on the Chiefs, who have been leading the division all season. If Denver pulls out a win over KC, the Chiefs the second place Oakland Raiders will move atop the division without even playing a snap as they are on their off week.

For the Broncos, Sunday is a chance to get their season back on track. At the very least, they could be saving their head coaches job as Josh McDaniels is firmly on the hot seat this season.

More after the jump.

It doesn’t look like the Kansas City Chiefs will be bringing back former FB Tony Richardson as Pro Football Talk is reporting that Richardson is likely to re-sign with the Jets today.

From PFT:

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Richardson could be re-signing as soon as this afternoon. (Actually, the source says that Richardson “should be” returning on Monday.)

It was always a long shot that T-Rich would return to KC as the Chiefs already have a couple of FB’s they seem to like in Castille and Cox.

Still, the Chiefs remain thin on depth at some areas so I expect them to be making a move or two today. Stay tuned.

Remember my last mock when I suggested the Rams would take Clausen, a QB at #1? Remember when you all said I should have my head examined? Who’s laughing now, eh? I might have had the QB wrong but I wasn’t insane to suggest that the Rams might pass on Suh and take a signal caller.

I also suggested that the Bills might trade up with the Chiefs to aquire Sam Bradford. I was called daft for that as well. Not so crazy these days, is it?

OK, gloating aside, there were also plenty of things I was off base about. But hey, that is the fun of doing these things, no? I hope you enjoy reading these mocks as much as we enjoy coming up with them.

Each mock inevitably brings in new readers that are fans of other teams. To those folks I say welcome to Arrowhead Addict. We are happy to have you. Please, however, keep in mind that this is a Chiefs site, so if we get your teams pick wrong, chilax. Remember, this is all make-believe. I suggest, if you are going to comment, tell us what you think your team should do and add to the discussion, instead of wasting a perfectly thoughts in favor calling me a moron and declaring this the worst mock draft since Mel Kiper’s hair started looking ridiculous. Cheers!

Different QB, same result. If the Rams were watching the playoffs last year and I know they were because they sure weren’t in them, they saw the caliber of QB it takes to succeed in the NFL. Manning, Brees, Favre, Rivers, Brady. There were some injury concerns about Bradford but those appear to be waning. He absolutely dazzled folks at the Combine with his size and character. Granted, he didn’t throw but unless his arm falls off at the shoulder at his pro day, this kid has a very big chance of going #1.

Lion’s defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham must be bursting with glee at the prospect of Bradford going #1. Last I heard, he anointed two armed guards to follow Bradford everywhere he goes and Cunningham himself, is giving Bradford daily shoulder massages and is waiting on the QB hand and foot to help him relax for his pro day. That scream of glee you hear when the Rams draft Bradford, that will be Cunningham.

Oklahoma

This choice will be pretty automatic for Tampa. They would probably rather trade back (who wouldn’t) but it isn’t going to happen. Their only hope is that some QB desperate team freaks and goes all in to get Clausen out of fear that the Redskins will take him. I just don’t think it will happen. #3 is really high to trade up. The earliest trade I think we will see is at #5 with KC but you never know.

Quarterback

Notre Dame

I am baffled when I see mock drafts that have the redskins picking a LT like Okung here to protect Jason Campbell. That is like trying to convince Jamarcus Russel to show up to camp thinner than Tom Cable. It ain’t gonna happen. Old rat face made his bacon in Denver by somehow creating a running game out of thin air with any HB who happen to be standing on his sideline. He took an entire offensive line cast off by the Browns and made them decent. No, I have changed my mind on this. Shanahan is not going to roll with Jason Campell. I wouldn’t put it past Shanni to pull a fast one and snatch up Chad Pennington for a year to have him run a bootleg extravaganza but I think if Clausen is there he is going to take him and get to work on terrorizing the NFC.

10. Eric Mangini is like Bill Belichick. With considerably less talent and a slightly geekier comb-over hairdo.

9. Herm Edwards was desperate to leave your mess for ours. “Harm” that.

8. Seriously, I didn’t think you could get any goofier than the Croyle-Huard combo. Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemons not only look like Brodie and Damon, respectively, I think they’re actually the bigger dorks.

7. Right now, the only fans more delusional and angry than Chiefs fans are Jets fans. But they’re born that way. Ever watched the draft live? If Jets fans had pull strings they’d say two phrases: A.) J-E-T-S… Jets, Jets, Jets; and B.) Boooooooooooooo!

6. D’Brickashaw Ferguson, more like Terd Ferguson. He’s going to sh** a D’Brick when he sees No. 69 lined up across from him today.

5. Lenny Dawson doesn’t get drunk and try to kiss sideline reporters. Even if he did, I think he’d do a little better than Suzy Kolber, Joe Nameth.

4. Thomas Jones was the missing ingredient that would allow the Jets to compete with the Pats. Right.

3. Chris Baker? You call that guy a starting tight end? In Kansas City we’d call him practice squad.

2. The state of Missouri has been better without Brad Smith. Good riddance.

1. The Jets are actually going to come out and play today, costing themselves a higher draft pick. Tanking is the fad in Kansas City, baby. I thought fads hit New York first?
