According to a report from Fox Sports, the San Diego Chargers are being investigated by the NFL for using “stickum,” a sticky substance used to aid receivers in “catching” the football.

This, from Jay Glazer:

“NFL Security has already begun investigation as SD equipment man was hiding illegal sticky substance and giving to players. Line judge saw it and had it confiscated and sent to Broncos and league.”

This is bad, bad news for the Chargers. Players used to use stickum all the time back in the day. Everyone used it. Receivers, lineman. It was all over everything. They slathered on so much of the stuff, it was all over everything.

The NFL wisely banned such practices in 1981.

If the NFL finds the Chargers guilty, there will likely be some type of penalty, which could include the loss of draft picks depending on how serious the NFL considers the situation to be.

It’s been awhile since the Chiefs have drafted in the twenties. How will the Chiefs handle the draft unfolding? Will they trade up or trade down? I am going to try to step into Scott Pioli’s shoes and take a shot at it.

First, let’s take a refresher on the needs. I have the Chiefs primary needs as: C, WR, NT, in no particular order. Secondary needs are RB, OT, SOLB. The Giants then Tampa pick before the Chiefs, with the Colts following the Chiefs pick. It is important to be aware of the needs of teams picking around you. This is especially true when you are talking about trading picks.

When you look at the draft board, it’s quite apparent that the Chiefs have a bit of a problem. Of the players likely to be around at #21, there isn’t a player at a primary need position that is good value at #21. Yes Addicts, I can hear the folks on the Taylor train complaining. Let’s take a detour and talk about why Phil Taylor has a second round grade on Draft Tek and why I agree with that and don’t see the value for him at #21.

The Kansas City Chiefs thrashed the Seattle Seahawks Sunday 42 to 24 in a perfect example of a team victory.

We usually give out game balls to the standout offensive, defensive and special teams players each week and we follow that up with the “Earning Their Arrowheads” series to recognize the other solid performers. This week, however, we’re going to do away with the game balls and just give out arrowheads. The reason for this, other than the fact that the old way was slightly redundant, is because to reach their goals the Chiefs are going to have to continue to work together as a team and that is going to take more than just 3 players a game.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the players who earned their arrowheads Sunday.

Matt Cassel

Let’s start at the top. Cassel has his second outstanding game in a row Sunday and this time he did it on the road. What is most impressive about Cassel’s performance over the last couple of games isn’t his touchdown totals or his yardage (although those help) but his completion percentage, his yards-per-pass and his poise. Cassel has looked like a much different QB than the guy we saw struggle in the Cleveland game and even as recently as the loss to Oakland. He has been calm in the pocket, he has made smart decisions with the football and his throws have been crisp and on target. By my count Cassel has only thrown 3 poor passes in his last two games, a massive improvement for a guy who I often criticized for accuracy problems.

Cassel is taking a big step forward and there is no denying it. He is working with a skeleton crew of receivers and he is still making plays. His career completion percentage is now over 60% and his career QB rating now stands at 99.7.
