We mentioned earlier that Scott Pioli should take some bold steps to help the Chiefs get back on track after losing Eric Berry to an ACL tear over the weekend.

It looks as though Pioli has responded by trying out an old TE you’ve probably never heard of.

Justin Peelle could be coming to KC everyone. Get excited.

According to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com, the Chiefs and 49ers recently worked out Peelle.

Peelle was a fourth-round pick by the Chargers and has caught 122 passes for 984 yards in his career. He also has 12 touchdowns. Unfortunately, that is over 8 yards per reception and since KC QB Matt Cassel only throws the ball 3 yards down field at a time, Peelle will likely be used more as a blocker if the Chiefs sign him.

To be fair, Wilson doesn’t say when the Chiefs worked out Peelle, who was recently released by the Falcons in an injury settlement. It may be that they worked him out before theylost Berry and so a more suitable player could be getting a look this week.

Peelle does, however, fit Pioli’s “old, broken and cheap” free agency business model so if he demonstrated a whiff of intangibles during his workout, the team may cut Jamaal Charles to get him on board.
