Star)" width="240" height="300" />The arrival of Chase Patton at the Chiefs weekend for draftees and undrafted free agents signaled the beginning of a long trek previously completed by the Chiefs’ newest leader behind center — Matt Cassel. Both Chase and Matt are tall QBs — Chase 6-foot-5, 220 pounds; Matt 6-foot-4, 230 pounds — and both were baseball pitchers and elite QBs in high school. They both also had the misfortune of playing behind outstanding QBs in college; Matt behind Heisman winners Matt Leinert and Carson Palmer at USC; Chase behind Heisman finalist Chase Daniel and the incomparable Brad Smith at Mizzou.

Matt Cassel was a seventh-round pick of the Patriots, and in 2008 became the only QB to start an NFL game without starting a game at QB in college. Could undrafted free agent Chase Patton of Mizzou follow in his footsteps? This weekend he had a tryout with the Chiefs, where he, along with other undrafted free agents, also completed a Pro Day-style workout. Here is my excluside post-tryout interview with Chase.

Old Chief: “Good evening, Chase. How was the tryout?”

Chase Patton: “It was a fast weekend. We arrived on Thursday and began signing paperwork and were handed out our equipment. Next we got to meet Todd Haley — very personable, intense and passionate to do things ‘the Chiefs Way.’ There were approximately 30 draftees and free agents attending the camp. On Friday in the morning we had a Pro Day testing reps in the 225-pound bench, 40-yard time, vertical jump and the broad jump.”

Old Chief: “What happened after Pro Day?”

Chase: “We had position meetings. I got the opportunity to meet Chan Galley. He was
simply awesome with complete grasp of offensive football.”

Old Chief: “How many practices did you have?”

Chase: “We had several each day. We went seven on seven as well as all on 11 in helmets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In between we had position meetings and studied the playbook.”

Old Chief: “How were things different than at Mizzou?”

Chase: “First, I had to get used to taking snaps from center because at Mizzou we ran strictly out of the spread. Secondly, I had to get used to having an attached tight end. We only had a few receivers and tight ends so the speed of the practice was down from the tempo in which Coach Haley likes.”

Old Chief: “What do you remember the most about the weekend?”

Chase: “I was impressed of the size and speed of Tyson Jackson, the mental preparation for the professional sport. The notion in the pros is how you deal with adversity and have a short memory. It was a weird feeling wearing the uniform of the team I grew up watching as a boy.”

Old Chief: “Your best memory?”

Chase: “That my final pass of the weekend went for a touchdown.”

Old Chief: “Great!! Good luck, Chase. We at Arrowhe Adaddict appreciate your time!”

Chase has a great future. Beyond being a potential NFL QB, he has already been accepted to dental school and is married to the beautiful former Mizzou track star Ashley Guy-Patton.

We want to welcome the folks coming over from Hashmarks and SI.com’s Hot Clicks. Thanks to both Matt Mosley and SI for the hook up. But on to the big news…

Thanks to the good folks over at YardBarker.com, and of course “The Show” himself, we have an exclusive interview with Chiefs star Dwayne Bowe for you! D-Bo not only has a new official site, but he will be blogging for YB from here on out as well. Here’s his latest post. Bark it up! (By the way, YB is blowing up and becoming the place to read pro athlete’s blogs. Great site for sports fans.)

Here are the questions. It’s a quickie but goody. Hopefully, we’ll be able to do this again and you can definitely read his thoughts over at YB…

1. My brother and I were at your first home game at Arrowhead when you completely took over and caught the game-winning touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings. The atmosphere was simply electric. You seemed jacked, you were calling for the ball. What was that game like for you?

It was just like college. I just felt like the team needed me and I took it into my own hands like I did when I was at LSU. My high school coach, Carlos Osegueda told me that big time players make big time plays in big time games in big time situations and that is what I did. I enjoyed the moment and then focused onto the next game.

2. All the hype and buzz Chiefs-wise is Glenn Dorsey right now, your ex- and once-again teammate. Tell us a little about the big man. Is he as good as advertised?

He is from LSU, what do you expect? I told Herm Edwards if you want to win, draft Glenn and that’s what he did. So you can expect “The Show” and former LSU superstar Glenn Dorsey to make it happen for the Chiefs this year.

3. We understand that you are thinking about taking “The Show” from the football field to the silver screen. Is Hollywood ready for D-Bo? What kind of stuff do you see yourself doing?

To be continued…

4. Lil’ Wayne is your favorite rapper. Could you hang with Weezy on the mic?

Of course, he do his thang on the mic, I do my thang on the field but at the same time we are both doing our thing.

5. Chiefs fans always debate this, so we’ll let you decide for the last question. Who do you hate more: the Denver Broncos or Oakland Raiders?

I don’t hate neither of the teams…hate is a very strong word. I love playing both teams, they have very good corners who challenge me to do my best.

6. Who’s the bigger pretty boy: D-Bo or Tony G?

Neither, Tank Tyler!

7. How’s your Herm Edwards impersonation? Who’s the best on the Chiefs at doing Herm?

I do a pretty good Herm impersonation.

Good times! Hopefully, we’ll be able to do this again sometime during the season. For now, we hear that D-Bo is going to likely be doing some vlogging. So, we’ll holler at the YB folks and see if they can get that Herm impersonation on video over there.

Chiefs linebacker Mickey Pimentel, aka the Cuban Missle, and the folks over at YardBarker were nice enough to hook us up with an exclusive interview with the young LB. Thanks to both Mickey and everybody at YardBarker, where Mickey has his own blog. Be sure to check it out! Here’s the interview:

1. What was it like to finally realize what must have been a lifelong dream and make an NFL roster?

man o man. when i first got the news that i was on the Kansas City practice squad i just got out of class and i was in the middle of the street walking to my scooter. my agent told me the good news. i dropped my books and started jumping up and down in the middle of the street lol. people were looking at me crazy. so the feeling that i had when i made the roster was 10 times better. i smiled for the whole day and called everybody and let them know the good news. it is a feeling i cant really describe in words.

2. You’re originally from Cali, San Diego I believe. What do you think of Kansas City (other than the weather)?

well i was born in long beach california, i lived there until i was 12, then we moved to san diego. it’s funny because all the LA cats that i have met, especially at cal, tell me i’m from san diego. probably because LA cats hate a lot. but after all that hating i didnt want to claim la. instead i claim san diego and CUBA, because that is were my parents and sister are from. san diego has better high school football anyways lol. KC is pretty coo. the thing that i love about KC is the people and their BBQ. the people are the nicest people in the world.

3. How do you stay in shape during the offseason? Any secret Rocky-like training methods?

well i don’t really think i have an off-season. i’m always running and working out to get bigger faster stronger. i might take breaks here and there, but i don’t want to not be in shape. in the off-season i work out everyday with maurice jones-drew, derrick landry, matt gutierez, and justin forsett who is entering the draft this year. we have a real good trainer named coach mike. i cant really spell his last name lol, but i think that the group of guys i work with and coach mike made me 2x better than i was last year. we do all kinds of stuff like running stadiums, or jumps. we do a lot of explosive type things. so the best advice i have is always stay in shape, and you will never get out of shape.
