In the history of the hated—from Al Davis to John Elway to Philip Rivers and everyone in between—the name Brandon Siler doesn’t exactly make the blood boil. Still, when it was announced that the linebacker, who had spent his entire four-year career with the San Diego Chargers, would be the newest Brandon on Kansas City’s defense, it was another small victory, and not only because Siler will hopefully fill a real need for the Chiefs. Our gain is a little sweeter when it’s also a rival’s loss.

Brandon Siler, being interviewed while changing out of his Chargers rags and into his new Chiefs uniform.

And that got me thinking about those times in recent Chiefs history when we’ve had the chance to see an old rival reborn in red and gold—and even wash away his sins with a game-changing or dominating performance against his old team. Even something as relatively mundane as a well-executed third-down conversion or defensive stop for short gain has an added ounce of gratification. There’s that feeling of “Yeah, that’s right—he’s with us now.”

So, in no particular order, here are a few of the notable former AFC West adversaries who saw the light (or were traded, or discarded by the forces of darkness and picked up as a steal in free agency, etc.) and used their football force for good.

This should make you feel pretty good.

Former Chiefs receiver, Eddie Kennison, has signed with Kansas City in order to retire a Chief.

Kennison was drafted by the Rams but the best years of his career came with the Chiefs from 2002-2006 Kennison averaged 59 receptions, 961 yards, and 5 touchdowns. Kennison had back to back 1000 yard seasons in 2004 and 2005 as part of the great Dick Vermiel offenses led by Trent Green.

Kennison injured his hamstring on the first play of the season in 2007 and was released in February of 2008. He then resigned with the Rams but never really got going. He was released in October of 2008.

I always liked Kennison and I never thought he got enough credit for being the Chiefs #1 receiver. It is great that he will retire in Red and Gold.

“I am honored and humbled to officially conclude my NFL playing career as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs,” Kennison said. “My family is extremely grateful to the Hunt family, Scott Pioli and the Chiefs organization for making this moment possible. Kansas City has a special place in our hearts, and has truly become our home. I feel very blessed to have been extended the opportunity to retire as a member the Chiefs.”

Congratulations on a great career Eddie and welcome back to the Chiefs!

Could ex-Chargers WR Eric Parker end up with the Chiefs? I’m not the only one who thinks it’s a possibility. From Bill Williamson’s AFC West blog over at ESPN:

Parker was cut by San Diego on Wednesday. He missed all of last season with a toe injury and he is not completely ready. But he expects to return soon. When Parker is ready, he could get interest from the Chargers’ AFC West foes.

Both Oakland and Kansas City could use a veteran… Chiefs coach Herman Edwards has said he wants to see what his young receivers do in camp and in the preseason before adding a veteran. If Edwards needs a receiver, Parker, a solid No. 3 option, could be the man.

I do think we need a veteran at that position. At the age of 29, Parker is a vet who’s not past his prime as well. Plus, he’s a return guy. I say why not. The guy will be extra motivated to stick it to his old team, a la Eddie Kennison.

What does everybody else think of the possibility of the Chiefs adding Eric Parker to the team’s thin receiving corps?

Arrowhead Addict still approves of the job you are doing as the head coach of the Chiefs and has your back. But you almost lost us last week.

There was absolutely no reason why Eddie Drummond should have been active last week. Zach and I both fought of colds and the elements — not to mention driving three hours both ways — to support our team last week, and this is how you repay us and the other 50,000 fools who were loyal enough to show up and support the Chiefs last week?

The only thing I wanted to see personally was a Bobby Sippio catch, and you kept him inactive for Drummond? The same guy who had been in street clothes for the last month? The same guy who set kick returning back about as much as Paris Hilton and Co. set back ladylikeness? The same guy who couldn’t run a kick return past the 30-yard line if his life depended on it? The same guy who has arguably cost us two games with bonehead fumbles? The same guy who prevented us from taking a look at Justin Phinisee?

(By the way, Phinisee is still available, because he’s still just sitting there on the Rams’ practice squad. Why not pick him up and give him another shot? At least we know he can make it past the 50.)
