Multiple sources are reporting that the Minnesota Vikings are going to grant a request by QB Donovan McNabb to be released.

McNabb, the long-time Eagle, has bounced around the league since he was traded out of Philly, spending time in Washington and Minnesota. His play has declined significantly though it is possible he has just been put in two poor situations.

Regardless of his recent track record, it is likely some desperate team will put a claim in on the 36 year-old QB.

My money is on the Texans and Bears, both of whom are in the playoff hunt and are desperate for a starting caliber QB. McNabb is originally from Chicago, so he might want to end up there.

The Chiefs may have had interest a couple of weeks ago but my guess is that they’ll stay out of this one.

KC’s 2nd Round Pick Could Be Valuable to McNabb Suitors With all the rumors swirling around about a possible trade for Donovon McNabb, one teams name that I haven’t seen mentioned is the Kansas City Chiefs. No, I am not suggesting the Chiefs would be interested in trading for McNabb but they may just be the vehicle for another team to get a deal done. The rumor right now is that the Eagles will give up McNabb for a draft pick in the top 42 picks. That would be the 10th pick in the 2nd round and above. I don’t think anyone is going to give up a 1st rounder for McNabb at this point but I do think teams will give up an early 2nd rounder for him. The Chiefs hold the #36 pick in the draft and they are surrounded by QB needy teams. At 32, it just depends on what the Eagles want. Larry Johnson, a second-rounder and a conditional pick? Sure. The No. 3 pick? Get lost. Of course, all of this is contingent on McNabb asking for a trade, but his buddy Deion Sanders says he wants out. From Philly.com:

Deion Sanders, meanwhile, remained McNabb’s greatest defender and stuck by his story that the quarterback wants out of Philadelphia even though his only source seems to be himself. Sanders ripped Eagles fans at various points during the season, including after the Thanksgiving night game, when McNabb threw four touchdowns in a rout of the same Cardinals who are representing the NFC in Sunday’s Super Bowl.

“I don’t hate Philadelphia,” Sanders said. “I never said anything derogatory about Philadelphia. What I said about Philadelphia is that Donovan McNabb wants to leave. I think it’s a beautiful city, but it’s also a city that cheered when Michael Irvin was injured. That’s my thoughts about the athletic realm of Philadelphia. But I never said I hate the city. I think it’s a beautiful city.”

If it’s so beautiful, why does he think McNabb wants to leave?

“Maybe it’s because they booed him on draft day,” Sanders said. “Maybe it’s because they continuously doubt him when he’s taken them to four [actually five] NFC championship games. Maybe it’s because no matter what he does, it’s never enough. Maybe that’s the reason.”

This could get interesting. The good news is that with the plethora of options out there, Scott Pioli will, I repeat will, find a quarterback. No, I am not talking about looking down at the roster and realizing Tyler Thigpen is on it either. Personally, I’ll have to mull this over for a while, maybe wait until we hear more.
