The Kansas City Chiefs have released their final injury report ahead of tomorrow’s game against the Oakland Raiders.

Safety John McGraw, who has been battling a high ankle sprain, will be out for Sunday’s game. This will be the second game McGraw has missed with this injury. He tried to practice all week but was only able to participate on a limited basis.

Center Casey Wiegmann is listed as probable with a calf injury. Wiegmann hasn’t missed a start, or a snap for that matter, in a long, long time. He’s a lock to play again on Sunday.

For the Raiders, ESPN’s John Clayton is reporting that RB Darren McFadden and WR Jacoby Ford will miss Sunday’s game. While this news will certainly make things more difficult for Oakland, back-up RB Michael Bush has had his fair share of success against KC. Don’t expect the Chiefs to overlook him.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a big AFC West showdown today when they take on the Oakland Raiders.

I have been going back and forth on this game all week. For most of the week I was almost sure that I would be picking the Raiders. They are running the ball well and have been getting pretty solid play at the QB position as well. My worry is that the Chiefs are going to go into Oakland and get ambushed by a confident and physical football team.

I think part of my insecurity is something that happened to me a few weeks ago. You see, I grew up in Ohio and I am a big Ohio State Buckeyes fan. The Buckeyes are, in a lot of ways, like the Chiefs. They are well coached and they like to run the football, play good defense and control the flow of the game. They don’t make a lot of mistakes and they don’t play flashy.

One difference between the Buckeyes and the Chiefs is that Jim Tressel is a very conservative coach whereas Todd Haley is an aggressive gambler.

The reason I think of the Buckeyes when I think of today’s contest in Oakland is because of what happened to Ohio State when they went to Wisconsin. It was a big game, under the lights on the road. Had the game been in Ohio I think the Buckeyes could have pulled off a win but instead, the Badgers came out and ran it down Ohio State’s throat.

That was what was so shocking about the loss. Ohio State had been playing excellent defense all season but the Badgers gashed them, running the ball straight up the middle all night long. The Wisconsin faithful were fired up and from the opening kickoff it seemed that Ohio State never had a chance. They were standing in front of a freight train and they were bond to get run over.

This is what scares me about today’s game. It isn’t that I think the Raiders are a more talented team than the Chiefs. I don’t. I just worry that the Chiefs are walking on to the train tracks at the wrong time.

My official prediction is after the jump.

The Kansas City Chiefs are going to California this Sunday for the most important Chiefs, Raiders game in recent memory.

Anyone who thinks the Raiders are a pushover hasn’t been paying attention this season and the Chiefs are going to have to be on top of their game to escape Oakland with a victory.

Here are five things I think the Chiefs need to do if they want to beat the Raiders.

1. Stop McFadden and Bush

The Chiefs have the best rushing attack in the NFL but the Oakland Raiders aren’t far behind.

In fact, they’re right behind.

Oakland has been running well all year but after the last couple of weeks they now rank second in the league, rushing for 168.5 yards per game.

The Chiefs counter with the leagues 7th ranked run defense. The Chiefs are only giving up about 90 yards per game and have shut down the likes of Arian Foster, Maurice Jones-Drew and Frank Gore so far this season.

Still, the Raiders will be KC’s toughest test to date. If the Chiefs can keep the Raiders run game in check, they’ll have a chance. If not, I doubt they can overcome Oakland on the road.

Here’s a few Chiefs/AFC West links I’ve found this afternoon…

Head on over to NFL.com and vote for Derrick Thomas! He’s listed as their No. 2 player on a top ten list of best players not in the Hall of Fame. – NFL.com

Speaking of the Hall, the Boys from Bristol profile soon-to-be HOFer Emmitt Thomas. – ESPN

Peter Schrager thinks our beloved Red and Gold could end up 0-16. Ouch. 0-and-freakin’-16? C’mon, now. – Fox Sports

Are you scared to death of Darren McFadden yet? You should be. I definitely am. – AFC West Blog

As always, be sure to make our good friends over at A.P. part of your daily routine. Those guys are doing a great job of following training camp. – Arrowhead Pride

A lengthy article on Brodie Croyle and the Chiefs from his old ‘Bama stomping grounds. – Tuscaloosa.com

More on Jared Allen‘s River Falls scrimmage absence. Was he too busy working on that lumberjack beard? Rubbing Bryant McKinnie‘s back (Dan over there has this ongoing homoerotic Jared-McKinnie joke that’s pretty funny)? – The Viking Age

A good look at Pat Thomas (what is this, Thomas day?) and the linebacker situation. – Home of the Chiefs

And shameless self-promotion. If you enjoy bagging on bad movies and the Brett Favre drama, go check it out. – Fan-Sided Blogs

We’ll likely be back later in the day with more Chiefs ramblings and updates…

After two previous editions of “The Blueprint,” here is the scenario I laid out for “The Blueprint 3.” Keep in mind that trades are very hard to pull off in the top five, so a no-trade stipulation is also part of the scenario:

Team

1. Miami Dolphins – OT Jake Long, Michigan

2. St. Louis Rams – DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU

3. Atlanta Falcons – QB Matt Ryan, Boston College

4. Oakland Raiders – DT Sedrick Ellis, USC

5. Kansas City Chiefs – RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas

Now, some of you have suggested that this scenario is simply an exercise and is all but impossible. Not true. Judging from both the draft’s recent past and the needs of the top four teams, this could be one of the wildest drafts yet…

McFadden just ran a 4.27 40-yard dash. Right now that is his unofficial time, but it looks like McFadden didn’t hurt himself by running at the combine. Matter of fact, he might have made himself the top pick with someone looking to trade up to get him. (somewhere Jerry Jones is drooling)

McFadden was also rumored to have a slight leg injury and many people wondered why he was running. Today he showed he is a competitor, just like Adrian Peterson did last year at the combine. There is no way he slips like Purple Jesus did last year. The only way would be if his off-the-field problems scare teams away, but I think a 4.2 40 will make all of those people forget about those problems.

Trade down. It’s a common opinion among Chiefs fans when it comes to what the Chiefs should do in the first round of this April’s NFL Draft. Well, guess what — trading down is easier said than done.

Unless either Darren McFadden or Matt Ryan is sitting there, there is really no chance of the Chiefs trading down. Even then, the team trading up would have to really, really want one of those two players. Why?

We’ve seen first hand what striking out on a top ten pick can do. Remember Ryan Sims? It’s not only demoralizing to the fans and a waste of what needs to be a Pro Bowl-caliber player, it kills the salary cap. Then consider that trading up to that spot would likely cost a team its own first and a plethora of other important picks. In a year where the back of the first round is nearly as good as the front, don’t expect many teams to be willing to take on that gamble.

I know this won’t be a popular post, but I’m just trying to help my fellow Chiefs fans be a bit more realistic about this upcoming draft. Plus, Jake Long and McFadden will almost certainly be gone, and if Ryan makes it to five we might even take him. Basically, unless Run DMC miraculously slips to five and Jerry Jones calls, don’t expect us to trade down. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it will be easier for us to face it now than in April.

While reading this Adam Teicher Kansas City Star piece about the plethora of juniors declaring for April’s draft, a few things stood out Chiefs wise.

First off, Jason Dunn seems to be exactly what we expected — done:

“Everybody knows we’re focusing on the offensive line and the cornerback situations,” said Chuck Cook, the Chiefs director of college scouting. “But we’d like to get another power wide receiver, a guy who can go get it to help (Dwayne) Bowe out. We’d like to get another running back because you always need another one. We’d like to get another young linebacker. And we’d like to get a blocking tight end to replace (Jason) Dunn.

Second, it looks like the Darren McFadden pipe dream is officially over. That probably officially happened when Chan Gailey stepped through the door.

Not all of Kiper’s 16 first-round juniors would be of interest to the Chiefs. They will pass on Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, for instance, because they already have Larry Johnson.

I do understand that the Chiefs cannot afford to make a luxury pick this time around, especially early, But I never felt like Run DMC was a luxury pick. Oh well, hopefully the Raiders (or Cowboys?) will bite and either Jake Long or Ryan Clady will slip to us,

First off, if you don’t visit both our site and Arrowhead Pride, you have to check out his “Where We Stand” Chiefs positional-breakdown series. Really terrific.

A hat for buying season tickets? Thanks, King Carl. No, really, you’re too much. – Intentional Foul

Another Chiefs blog. Pretty nice layout, too. – Chiefs Universe

Jeffri Chadiha thinks we desperately need another quarterback besides Brodie Croyle. I think almost everyone but the Chiefs agree. – ESPN

A more recent offensive coordinator update than the one we did a little while back. Chan Gailey, Eric Price and Mike Shula are the focal points. – Real Football 365

Casey Weigmann made the All-Joe team, named in honor of ex-Chiefs DT Joe Phillips. – USA Today

Jerry Jones is obviously interested in Darren McFadden. He might trade up way before our pick, maybe even to the first pick in order to get him. – Phin Phanatic

Oh, yeah, the FSB network has added two new awesome sites: Dawg Pound Daily and Niner Noise. There’s an interesting article about the Browns‘ Josh Cribbs, the sort of return man we desperately need, on DPD. Over on Niner Noise, Drew discusses the 49ers possibly moving to L.A. Good stuff.
