Chiefs fans, living in the Midwest during the spring is tumultuous to say the least. This week alone at least two deadly tornadoes have ripped through the area, and I can tell you that everyone is on edge every time a dark cloud crests the horizon. There is something unnerving about a severe storm that can only be known to those that have experienced the utter terror and destruction it can bring. There is a term still used by insurance companies and the like today that describe it as an “act of God.” Although I am not going to bring religious discussion into this forum, I believe that this is a fitting term. With storms of this magnitude one truly understands how small they are, and are left with no other alternative than hope to guide them through the storm to survive. There is a palpable sense of a higher power wreaking havoc and destruction when something like this happens.

Meteorologists can sit there and tell you exactly what forms a tornado. They can give you warning signs and set off sirens to help you get ready. They have written volumes of books, and teach thousands of hours of college level classes available to determine the signs of an upcoming storm. The one thing they cannot tell you is when a tornado will strike. There will always be signs that the weather is moving in that direction and there will always be people anticipating it to hit, but no one can tell you for sure a tornado will hit until it happens.

See any correlation?

If you haven’t heard yet, teams other than the Kansas City Chiefs are picking in the 2011 NFL Draft. In fact, those teams play a very important role in the Chiefs’ draft since the Chiefs don’t pick in the top 5 this year. Who the 20 teams before us pick can have a significant impact on who we draft. So, for those wondering why I don’t think AJ Green or Julio Jones will be there for us at 21, take a look at one way I see the first round of the Draft going.

According to Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network, the Kansas City Chiefs will use the franchise tag to retain the services of outside linebacker Tamba Hali should the two parties not be able to come to an agreement before the February 24th tag deadline.

Teams can start using the franchise tag starting today. My guess is that we won’t see Hali tagged right away because the Chiefs still have until the 24th to work out a long term deal and they will likely use that time to avoid angering Tamba.

According to LaCanfora, Hali is seeking the same deal that the Dallas Cowboys gave DeMarcus Ware. LaCanfora goes on to say that the Chiefs and Hali had exploratory contract talks at the Senior Bowl.

This isn’t Chiefs related but I would be doing you a disservice if I did not pass the info along to you. Deadspin has a video of Jerry Jones who appears trashed and is bad mouthing Bill Parcells and Tim Tebow. He seems to claim he only brought in Bill Parcell’s to get money to build his team’s new stadium. Below is a bit of the transcript and here is the link.

Jerry Jones: Romo was a miracle.

Other guy: It was a miracle, wasn’t it?

JJ: He almost never got in, and he almost was gone. Tebow would never…

Different other guy: What if you were the Jaguars or — would you just, just draft him and sell fucking jerseys?

JJ: That’s the only reason I brought in Bill Parcells.

[Laughter]

JJ: [Inaudible. Sounds a little like, "Sell mammoth fuckin' rake," whatever that means.]

Remember my last mock when I suggested the Rams would take Clausen, a QB at #1? Remember when you all said I should have my head examined? Who’s laughing now, eh? I might have had the QB wrong but I wasn’t insane to suggest that the Rams might pass on Suh and take a signal caller.

I also suggested that the Bills might trade up with the Chiefs to aquire Sam Bradford. I was called daft for that as well. Not so crazy these days, is it?

OK, gloating aside, there were also plenty of things I was off base about. But hey, that is the fun of doing these things, no? I hope you enjoy reading these mocks as much as we enjoy coming up with them.

Each mock inevitably brings in new readers that are fans of other teams. To those folks I say welcome to Arrowhead Addict. We are happy to have you. Please, however, keep in mind that this is a Chiefs site, so if we get your teams pick wrong, chilax. Remember, this is all make-believe. I suggest, if you are going to comment, tell us what you think your team should do and add to the discussion, instead of wasting a perfectly thoughts in favor calling me a moron and declaring this the worst mock draft since Mel Kiper’s hair started looking ridiculous. Cheers!

Different QB, same result. If the Rams were watching the playoffs last year and I know they were because they sure weren’t in them, they saw the caliber of QB it takes to succeed in the NFL. Manning, Brees, Favre, Rivers, Brady. There were some injury concerns about Bradford but those appear to be waning. He absolutely dazzled folks at the Combine with his size and character. Granted, he didn’t throw but unless his arm falls off at the shoulder at his pro day, this kid has a very big chance of going #1.

Lion’s defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham must be bursting with glee at the prospect of Bradford going #1. Last I heard, he anointed two armed guards to follow Bradford everywhere he goes and Cunningham himself, is giving Bradford daily shoulder massages and is waiting on the QB hand and foot to help him relax for his pro day. That scream of glee you hear when the Rams draft Bradford, that will be Cunningham.

This choice will be pretty automatic for Tampa. They would probably rather trade back (who wouldn’t) but it isn’t going to happen. Their only hope is that some QB desperate team freaks and goes all in to get Clausen out of fear that the Redskins will take him. I just don’t think it will happen. #3 is really high to trade up. The earliest trade I think we will see is at #5 with KC but you never know.

Quarterback

Notre Dame

I am baffled when I see mock drafts that have the redskins picking a LT like Okung here to protect Jason Campbell. That is like trying to convince Jamarcus Russel to show up to camp thinner than Tom Cable. It ain’t gonna happen. Old rat face made his bacon in Denver by somehow creating a running game out of thin air with any HB who happen to be standing on his sideline. He took an entire offensive line cast off by the Browns and made them decent. No, I have changed my mind on this. Shanahan is not going to roll with Jason Campell. I wouldn’t put it past Shanni to pull a fast one and snatch up Chad Pennington for a year to have him run a bootleg extravaganza but I think if Clausen is there he is going to take him and get to work on terrorizing the NFC.

Oliver Hoyte is no longer a fullback. But the twist to Oliver’s situation is that he never really was a fullback in the first place. In both high school and at North Carolina State he played linebacker. After seeing how average the Chiefs‘ linebacking corps has been so far, can you blame Hoyte for wanting to go back to his old school roots?

Donnie Edwards is hurt, and I’m afraid he’s caught a bad case of the Ken Griffey Jr.-Kevin Johnson-Emmitt Smith hammy disease. Derrick Johnson has not really elevated his play yet. Napoleon Harris has completely disintegrated, Boba Fett-style. Demorrio Williams has not stepped up like we expected him, or at least wanted, him to. As for Pat Thomas, well, he’s the unheralded Pat Thomas.

Hoyte is massive, and if he can play fullback then he’s fast enough to play in the middle for sure. Pop was basically as out of position as Boomer Grigsby was at fullback, so this is a smart move. Nonetheless, he has his work cut out for him if he wants to make the final roster, let alone play.

By the way, “Pop” is listed as his nickname over on his official site, which I refuse to link until they pull all of that lame Dallas Cowboys‘ shit off of there.

Oh, hell no! They went Disney on us? Well, an eye for an eye, baby. And at least we’re tying our images in, adding a little insult to the image. Peter Pan? Cinderella? No explanation? WTF? Sweet imagination. Walt would be ashamed of you. Speaking of images, instead of bringing a knife to a gunfight, that effort is kind of like a retarded kid bringing MS Paint to a Photoshop showdown. Hey, he tried. We do more than try around these parts.

Now, the Pinocchio/Jiminy Cricket reference isn’t because most Cowboys fans are fairweather coattail riders that jumped on board during either the golden Landry years or The Triplets era. It’s a reference to the straight up whoppers the lead blogger of The Landry Hat, Dan T., has been telling.

Whopper No. 1: Marion Barber, at this point and time, is better than Larry Johnson.

Reality: The stats in no way, shape or form support that. L.J. has consistently been a top-five rusher since taking over for Priest Holmes, and the statistics support that. Easily. Barber has never recorded a 1,000-yard or 20-touchdown season, and last year he couldn’t even beat out Julius Jones. Barber is a fine player, but he isn’t nearily as accomplished or feared at this juncture.

Whopper No. 2: Jason Witten, at this point and time, is better than Tony Gonzalez.

Reality: Witten has never topped Gonzalez head-to-head in catches or yards in any of his five seasons. Dan has tried to compare the way they began their careers to say Witten is/has been the better player, which makes about as much since as an asshole on an elbow, but I digress. There is no reasoning with this guy. This argument has absolutely no merit.

We have no choice but to implement the Washington Post’s “Pinocchio Test” as a result of these fantastic whoppers, and give Dan T. a score of FOUR PINOCCHIOS for his tall tale shenanigans. Congrats to The Landry Hat! You are flushing blogger credibility down the toilet with each post. Appreciate that.

You got played like a puppet, son. Don’t make us go Dumbo on that ass.

As some of you might know, we have a sister site called The Landry Hat, which represents <strike>America’s Team</strike> America’s least favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. Dan T., the lead writer over there, sure knows his stuff when it comes to the Cowboys. When it comes to the rest of the league, however, he apparently doesn’t know jack.

First off, he criticized this thread and its comments, where myself, Zach and many readers rank Larry Johnson as a top-five NFL running back. Maybe it’s just me, but when a guy starts off as hot as any back in NFL history and was second in rushing the season before last, yeah, that guy is one of the five best in the league. Hell, three years ago he would have made it to the coveted 2,000-yard mark if he hadn’t been buried behind Priest Holmes for half the year.

Look, we know Marion Barber is a very good player, and also that you hate the Chiefs, but let’s be honest here. In a season where K.C.’s Iron Man only got three starts and was Priest’s towel boy for most of the year, he racked up almost 600 yards and nine rushing touchdowns. In Barber’s career year, last year, he totaled a little shy of 1,000 yards and had 10 rushing TDs. C’mon, Dan, in what was basically a season and a half L.J. racked up over 3,500 rushing yards and 37 rushing TDs. You’re telling me a guy who has yet to record 1,000 yards rushing or more than 14 rushing TDs in a season is better than that? Next to L.J., Marion Barber looks like Maid Marian.

Wake up, baby! Maybe Jerry Jones should hook you up with some of that Pepsi with ginseng in it.

After the jump it even gets worse…

The Dallas Cowboys signed every Chiefs fans second favorite former Chief — defensive tackle Junior Siavii (I know everyones favorite is Ryan Sims). The Cowboys have put him on their reserve/future list. I am shocked that someone would take a chance on a player who did more hitting in bars than on the field, but again this is the team that signed Tank Johnson. Maybe Junior can be Tank’s new going-out buddy. Obviously, this doesn’t guarantee Siavii anything, but maybe he will at least have the funds to once again party like an NFL player. Here is what the Cowboys official website is saying:

The Cowboys continue to stock their roster with street free agents, signing defensive tackle Junior Siavii to their reserve/future list on Wednesday.

I am shocked that any journalist would use the word “stock” when they talk about Siavii, unless he was talking about his weight (last registered at 330 pounds). Especially when Junior hasn’t played a down in two years. Maybe he needed the rest for everything he <strike>did</strike> didn’t do for the Chiefs?

Does anyone remember what 810 nicknamed Siavii? Was it spit mask or spit net? I remember it was something that the police used when he got arrested because he was spitting on the police.
