This Sunday the Cincinnati Bengals come to town. With my week filling in for Paddy coming to a close, I realized that with all the talk about banners, black outs, and possible draft prospects, I haven’t spent any time looking at the actual matchup this week, until now. Nathan Bramwell gave you a great look at the Bengals earlier, now here is a little more on how the Chiefs and Bengals matchup for this Sunday’s game.

When The Chiefs Have The Ball:

KC’s offense is ranked #18 in yards per game with 350.0.
Cincy’s defense is ranked #19 in yards allowed with 353.0.

KC is ranked #30 in scoring with 16.2 PPG.
Cincy’s D is ranked #25 in points allowed at 25.7 PPG.

KC’s run game is ranked #4 with 149 yards/game.
Cincy’s run D is ranked #20 with 118.3 yards/game.

KC’s passing game is ranked #26 with 201 yards/game.
Cincy’s pass defense is ranked #19 with 234.7 yards/game.

With these numbers alone, it doesn’t look like too bad of a matchup for KC’s offense. What it doesn’t show is that the Bengals best defender Geno Atkins could be poised to wreak havoc on KC’s offense. Atkins leads all defensive tackles in sacks with 7. Atkins is a beast and with Asamoah already out and Lilja banged up as well, it’s not a good time to face one of the best interior defensive lineman in the NFL right now. If the Chiefs can find a way to slow down Atkins, they could find some success against the rest of Cincy’s defense.

When The Bengals Have The Ball:

Cincy’s offense is ranked #20 with 346.6 YPG.
KC’s defense is ranked #11 with 336.6 YPG.

Cincy’s offense is ranked #12 with 24.4 PPG.
KC’s defense is ranked #28 with 28.4 PPG.

Cincy’s run game is ranked #25 with 93.7 YPG.
KC’s run defense is ranked #23 with 122.6 YPG.

Cincy’s pass attack is ranked #10 with 252.9 YPG.
KC’s pass defense is ranked #9 with 214.0 YPG.

I actually think KC’s run defense will be able to stop the Bengals rushing attack. The real test will be if the Chiefs can stop the Bengals passing game. AJ Green is a freak of nature. Flowers is the only defensive back on the roster with the game to hang with Green and he’ll be giving up 7 INCHES against him. If that wasn’t enough, they also have a very under the radar tight end in Jermaine Gresham. Gresham may not get the press that other top TEs do, but he’s just as good. Given the problems that KC has had against TEs, Gersham could cause problems. Stopping Green and Gersham will unquestionably be the key to stopping the Bengals.

Turnover Differential:

KC: -20
Cincy: -2

If Kansas City turns the ball over like they have most of the season they’ll lose. Period.

Key Players:

Andy Dalton – 64.4%, 2,329 yards, 7.39 YPA, 18 TDs, 11 INTs, 54.4 QBR
Matt Cassel – 58.6%, 1,703 yards, 6.53 YPA, 6 TDs, 12 INTs, 40.1 QBR

BenJarvus Green-Ellis – 537 yards rushing, 3.4 YPA, 3 TDs
Jamaal Charles – 734 yards rushing, 4.7 YPA, 3 TDs

AJ Green – 58 receptions, 820 yards, 14.1 YPR, 9 TDs
Dwayne Bowe – 49 receptions, 626 yards, 12.8 YPR, 3 TDs

Geno Atkins – 7 sacks
Michael Johnson – 6 sacks
Justin Houston – 7 sacks
Tamba Hali – 5 sacks

Terrance Newman – 2 INTs
Brandon Flowers – 2 INTs

Bottom Line:

The Chiefs must find a solution for three of Cincy’s key players: AJ Green, Jermaine Gresham, and Geno Atkins. If KC can just contain them and keep them from doing massive damage all day long then KC has a shot to win. If those three players dominate the game then KC will have no chance. It also should go without saying that KC must not turn the ball over at the alarming rate that they have been most of the season.

The Houston Texans defeated the Cincinnati Bengals today in the first game of Wild Card Weekend in the NFL Playoffs.

Despite rolling with third string QB TJ Yates, the Texans ran all over the Bengals. Led by Arian Foster, the Texans rushed for 188 yards on Cinci, securing a win in their first ever playoff game.

The Bengals, who were led by rookie QB Andy Dalton, couldn’t keep up with Houston’s aggressive defense. Dalton threw three interceptions vs. no TDs, and Cinci managed just 76 yards on the ground.

The Texans will move on to face the Baltimore Ravens next week in the divisional round. Congratulations to the Texans.

Here we are, hours away from the 2011 NFL Draft. As the draft has grown closer, I have become more and more certain that the best move for the Kansas City Chiefs is to trade back from pick 21 into the top half of the 2nd round. In order to do this, of course, they will need to find a trade partner.

The first thing that needs to happen in this process is for a team to want to trade up for a player. A common thread that runs through all the teams I’m about to talk about is their need for a quarterback. For this draft, the quarterback class will set the tone for the entire draft. More than 10 teams could have QB as a need for their team. That means about a third of the league could be looking for a QB. If it appears to any of the teams hoping to get their QB in the second round that the QBs may not last that long, then teams will be looking to trade up to make sure they get their guy.

If you haven’t heard yet, teams other than the Kansas City Chiefs are picking in the 2011 NFL Draft. In fact, those teams play a very important role in the Chiefs’ draft since the Chiefs don’t pick in the top 5 this year. Who the 20 teams before us pick can have a significant impact on who we draft. So, for those wondering why I don’t think AJ Green or Julio Jones will be there for us at 21, take a look at one way I see the first round of the Draft going.

The Kansas City Chiefs took care of business today by beating the Tennessee Titans 34-14 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Attention now turns to the football game happening in Cincinnati, Ohio where the Bengals are taking on the San Diego Chargers. If the Bengals knock off the Chargers the Chiefs will win the AFC West and will be guaranteed a home playoff game. If the Chargers win, the Chiefs will have to defeat the Oakland Raiders next week to wrap things up.

Currently the Bengals are beating the Chargers 13-3. The second half has just begun. If you would like to listen to the game, just click the link below.

Win or lose, when the Kansas City Chiefs are finished with their game against the Tennessee Titans tomorrow, a few players may want to stay behind in the locker room to watch the afternoon game between the San Diego Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals.

By now you all know the situation. The Chiefs can clinch the AFC West title tomorrow if they win and the Chargers lose. If the Chiefs win and the Chargers win, then the Chiefs will have to beat the Oakland Raiders next week at Arrowhead. If the Chiefs lose and the Chargers win…well, we’re not going to talk about that.

I am not trying to look past the importance of the Chiefs winning tomorrow. I am by no way saying that the Titans will be easy to defeat but the fact that Kansas City has to take care of business tomorrow goes without saying.

What I am most interested in, is the game that will happen in Cincinnati. On paper the Chargers should destroy the Bengals. Cinci has won only 3 games all year and the Chargers are one of the most talented teams in the league and are fighting for a playoff spot.

Still, the Bengals are a dangerous team that is only one year removed from the playoffs itself. Cincinnati also swept the Ravens and the Steelers last year which anyone will tell you is no small task.

One thing working in KC’s favor tomorrow is that the Chargers have to leave the comfort and sunny weather of San Diego to travel to cold Cincinnati Ohio.

With the embarrassment of being a Chiefs fan at an all time high, the best Christmas present the players could get the fans would be to shut down Larry Johnson Sunday when they play the Bengals.

Sure, the Chiefs may not be able to stop Cedric Benson, especially not when they are in the habit of giving up 250 plus yards to Jerome Harrison but Johnson, and his evil, must be stopped

Sad news today Addicts. Bengals receiver, Chris Henry, died at 6:36 A.M. this morning in relation to injuries received from allegedly falling out of the back of a pickup truck driven by his fiancé during a domestic dispute.

The incident reportedly happened sometime on December the 16th. Henry was found on a residential street suffering what police called “life threatening injuries.”

Henry was currently on injured reserve after suffering a broken left forearm in a game against the Baltimore Ravens.

He leaves behind 3 children.

I can speak for us all here at AA when I say that we wish the Henry family and the Cincinnati Bengals our deepest condolences.

A couple of Bengals notes…

A.) Chris Henry will be permitted by the courts to travel to tryouts with prospective new teams. Any interest? The cost will be minimal, and if we were ever going to find a true No. 2 WR for next to nothing, this would be the time. The again, Henry is an idiot, a damn miscreant. Personally, I think he’s worse than Pacman Jones. Is he worth the gamble for the Chiefs, who still need help at wide receiver? Maybe, maybe not.

Cincinnati Bengals threatened to sue one of our blogs, Stripe Hype, citing the blog did “irreparable harm” to the franchise. Um, I think the 1,247 arrests did that, actually. Anyway, we have taken care of the suit, but that doesn’t mean we can’t voice our opinion about the matter. For a franchise struggling with an image problem, attack one of its hard-working fan bloggers and the blog’s parent company–both tireless promoters of the NFL–isn’t a very smart move. Very relevant stuff after what happened on Costas recently.

The Cincinnati Bengals were a little slow on the draw, but after much deliberation made a strong pick — LB Keith Rivers, USC. Some expected them to go secondary, but the pick definitely covers a need area. Now Cornelius — Fight Club fan or mean parents? — and the New Orleans Saints come marching in to our first ever AA Readers Mock Draft. Please tell me they are thinking defense here. Please.
