With the Kansas City Chiefs in the midst of a three-game skid, many fans are starting to look forward to the 2012 NFL Draft.

Our friends over at NFL Mocks have put together a full seven-round mock for the Chiefs.

Here is the first pick:

1st round Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa Hawkeyes

Offensive line or quarterback seems likely here. The problem I have with going quarterback is at this point I’m not sure if the Chiefs have given up on Matt Cassel yet or not. If I knew that this mock would be easier. I’m going to assume that they have NOT given up on Cassel as their franchise quarterback and because they drafted a QB early on last year, I’m going to avoid quarterback altogether.

With that being said Riley Reiff is a nice tackle prospect in a fairly top heavy OT class. Reiff or Jonathan Martin are the most likely tackles to be drafted after USC’s Matt Kalil. Reiff has the athleticism and range to be a very effective LT at the N.F.L., though he has the potential to be an All-pro kind of right tackle. Either way, the selection of Reiff instantly improve the Chiefs offensive line.

Interesting choice. We sure do need a tackle but I think I would put the needs at QB higher. Check out the entire mock draft over at NFL Mocks!

Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft, Round 5, Pick #140

Official Reader Pick:

Round 1: Phil Taylor, Nose Tackle, Baylor (Andrew)

Round 2: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA (Andrew)

Round 3: Edmund Gates, WR, Abilene Christian (Andrew)

Round 4: Tim Barnes, C, Missouri (Andrew)

Round 5 (A): Greg Salas, WR, Hawaii (Surprise…Andrew)

Y’all know the drill. Poll is in the post below.

Merlin: (5E)

Pick: Bilal Powell, RB Louisville

Explanation: Powell is a smart, patient runner with a great short burst and good speed. He runs tough between the tackles and is hard to bring down. This skill set makes him ideally suited for a zone blocking scheme. He tends to run a bit upright and take too many big hits. However, he can be a nice complement to Jamaal Charles as he tries to refine his style. At this point in the draft, an understudy to Thomas Jones is a fine choice.

There are a lot of mock drafts flying around these days so we here at Arrowhead Addict decided to try to bring you a different and interactive mock draft experience.

We’ve teamed up with FanSided’s draft Site NFL Mocks to bring you the first ever Kansas City Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft!

Basically, we have a panel of four mockers presenting four unique picks for every round of the Chiefs 2011 draft. The mockers are picking in a snaking order and once one mocker takes a player, he can no longer be selected by the others. The result is four realistic and unique options in each round. After the mockers present their picks, AA readers are voting on their favorite selection. Whichever players the readers pick will be the official Chiefs Nation selection in the Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft. The mockers will abide by the picks of Chiefs Nation as they continue on in the full seven round mock. When it is all over, we will have hopefully constructed the most fan friendly mock draft possible.

Let’s get to it. Below are the results so far and the picks for Round 4.

Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft, Round 4, Pick #118

Official Reader Pick:

Round 1: Phil Taylor, Nose Tackle, Baylor (Andrew)

Round 2: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA (Andrew)

Round 3: Edmund Gates, WR, Abilene Christian (Andrew)

Jesse (4A)

Pick: Mario Fanin, RB, Auburn

With the 86th pick in the 2011 Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft, AA readers select Edmund Gates, Wide Receiver, Abilene Christian.

Gates beat out the other options provided by taking 45% of the reader vote. Passed up in this round were John Moffitt, C/G Wisconsin (39%), Danny Watkins, G, Baylor (9%) and James Carpenter, OT, Alabama (7%).

With the selection of Gates, the Chiefs 2011 Draft Class now looks like this:

Official Reader Picks:

Round 1: Phil Taylor, Nose Tackle, Baylor (Andrew)

Round 2: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA (Andrew)

Round 3: Edmund Gates, WR, Abilene Christian (Andrew)

Our other Mockers have to be getting jealous. Andrew Crocker is 3 for 3 in this exercise so far. That being said, there are still plenty of picks left for the others to get their guys selected.

We’ll have Round 4 soon but what do you think of the draft so far?

With the first pick in the 2011 Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft, Chiefs Nation select Phil Taylor, nose tackle out of Baylor.

Arrowhead Addict and NFL Mocks are conducting the first ever Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft. Our panel of four Mockers will each select a different pick for the Chiefs in each round. We will then present those picks to Chiefs Nation so that the fans can vote and complete the Ultimate Chiefs Mock Draft. The mock will go all seven rounds.

The first round pick, as decided by Chiefs Nation is Phil Taylor. It seems Chiefs fans are hungry to fill the NT position and Taylor will certainly be able to do that.

In selecting Taylor, Chiefs Nation passed on OT Derrick Sherrod out of Mississippi State, OT Gabe Carimi out of Wisconsin and OLB Aldon Smith our of Missouri.

Smith was the closest to Taylor in the first round voting. Taylor received 110 of the 209 votes cast. Smith was the runner up with 48. 29 votes went to Carimi and 17 to Sherrod.

Now that the NT position is filled, the Mockers will likely turn their attention to other positions of need for the Chiefs in round 2.

The second round options will be posted soon so keep an eye out for that.

Looks like round 1 goes to Andrew Crocker, who presented Taylor as his choice.

For now, what do you think Addicts? Are you happy with the first round selection of Phil Taylor?

There are a lot of mock drafts flying around these days so we here at Arrowhead Addict decided to try to bring you a different and interactive mock draft experience.

We’ve teamed up with FanSided’s draft Site NFL Mocks to bring you the first ever Kansas City Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft!

How it works:

Three staff members from Arrowhead Addict, along with a representative from NFL Mocks are each going to provide a full, seven round mock draft for the Chiefs.

The first twist is that each participant will pick in a rotating order throughout the mock. Once a player is off the board in a given round, the next mocker cannot choose that player for his mock draft. The end result will be four complete, seven round mock drafts with no repeat selections. The mockers will use the Big Board over at Draft Tek.

How does this all add up to an “Ultimate Chiefs Mock Draft?”

I’m glad you asked.

As the picks roll in, we will post all four selections from each round in a poll on Arrowhead Addict. The readers will chose which mockers pick they like the best in each round. The winner of each poll will have their pick entered as the official selection of Chiefs Nation in the Ultimate Chiefs Mock Draft.

Why are we doing this?

We are doing this for a couple of reasons. For starters, we wanted to approach the mock draft from a new and interesting perspective. Instead of bombarding you with four mock drafts that are all similar, you will get four totally unique mocks. The process is designed to educate Chiefs Nation about the various options available to the Chiefs in each round while also making the reader apart of the process by having them choose the best pick in each round.

We hope you enjoy this exercise and without further ado, the AA and NFL Mocks Crew are on the clock for the first round of the Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft…

After the jump.

I was busy catching up on so AA business on Monday so I didn’t have time to throw together my weekly column. I still wanted to bust out a feature this week and I decided that what better way to make a splash then to enter the Mock Draft fray on Draft Thursday at Arrowhead Addict.

First, I want to just take a minute to thank Adam and Merlin for taking the lead on Draft Thursday. It was their idea (a fantastic one) and they are a big part of the reason we are bringing you such detailed draft coverage. Make sure you let those guys know how much you appreciate it because they have been working hard for weeks now.

Round 1, Pick #21: Mike Pouncey (G/C ) Florida

You know how last year the Chiefs did not address some areas of need because they banked on some of their younger players developing? I thought for sure they would take an ILB at some point but instead, they put faith that Derrick Johnson and Jovan Belcher could get the job done. It was a risk but for the most part, it paid off.

The Chiefs didn’t take one of those chances with the center position. They went out and got Casey Weigmann, who was so old he was a risk in himself. That tells me that the Chiefs had absolutely no faith that Rudy Niswanger would ever become more than he already was.

With it unlikely that we will see a free agency before the draft, the need to fill the center position through the draft becomes urgent. Pouncey represents a lot of what Pioli values in an offensive lineman. He is versatile and can play both center and guard. He went up against the best competition in the country in the SEC and held his own. His brother was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers last year. The result? His brother was a Pro Bowler and the Steelers went to the Super Bowl. By the way, he and his brother are twins. Same DNA ya’ll.

He has the size and speed to block at the second level. He is the kind of guy that can open up that hole for Jamaal Charles and then get that all important second block that could spring him for a score. At 6-5, 320, he’ll be able to deal with the 3-4 NT’s of teams like the Chargers.

Pouncey may not be a sexy pick but truth be told, there won’t be many sexy picks available at #21. Taking a receiver here will be a reach and I’m not sure KC will go for Phil Taylor (NT) here. If this kid is still on the board he is a no-brainer in my opinion. He also has pretty low bust potential and the Chiefs are not in a position where they can afford a first round bust.

Draft season is really starting to kick into high gear and Pro Football Talk has recently released their second first round mock.

Here is who they had the Chiefs taking:

21. Chiefs: Derek Sherrod, tackle, Mississippi State.

Kansas City needs a better right tackle than Barry Richardson if they’re going to continue to lead the NFL in rushing. Sherrod comes from a college program that posted a 619:288 run-to-pass ratio last season, and is considered this year’s most consistent tackle prospect in some circles.

This is an interesting pick and I certainly wouldn’t hate it. I am just not sure about Barry Richardson. He is still pretty young and is a developing guy so I hate for the Chiefs to give up on him, however he has some issues in pass protection that I don’t know if he’ll ever come. The Chiefs need to count on certain guys developing so they can fill other holes so I guess it depends on what they think they can get out of Richardson. Guys like Richardson, Belcher and Andy Studebaker are big question marks. How good are they and how much better can they get?

Todd Haley’s ability to identify the guys who will improve will likely be the key in the Chiefs taking the next step as a football team.

The following is a Kansas City Chiefs seven round mock draft, complete with a free agent wish list, sent to me by reader Danny W. We are always encouraging our readers to write their own blog posts in the Addict Posts forums and while Danny emailed this to me rather than post it in the forums, it was obvious to me that he put a lot of work into it and I wanted to share it with you all.

Posts like this one by Danny are exactly what we are looking for in the Addict Posts forum. I encourage all of you who are interested in blogging/writing about the Chiefs to start posting your work in the Addict Post forums. I’ll be promoting the forums all year round and particularity in the offseason. Well done posts will sometimes be featured on the main page. Props to Danny W for a job well done and be sure to give him feedback on his mock! -PA

A pre draft analysis of what I think could be the recipe for something special, not only this year but for years to come. I care deeply about my Chiefs and I would never want to steer my beloved addiction in the wrong direction. I plan to be hooked for life.
*
Round 1, Pick 21 WR-Jonathan Baldwin, Pitt
The guy stands at 6’5 and 220. Baldwin will run a faster forty time than both Green and Jones. With a giant like this in the red zone along with Bowe and Moeki we should see a significant increase in our touchdown to field goal ratio. He would come in and compete for the number 1 spot immediately. Competition is exactly what Bowe has needed since becoming a Chief.
*
Round 2, Pick 55 OLB- Bruce Carter or Robert Quinn, UNC
I know, I know we have Student Baker but I don’t think the brass likes him because I refuse to believe a football organization would show favoritism to a guy who is obviously well past his years (Vrabel) and who should have been on the bench the year before. KC should select Carter or Quinn. Either would be a steal in the second round. I could have gone with another contingency with Brooks Reed, who just came on this year. I think the fore mentioned names could have made it in the first round any other year is why I prefer them over Reed.
*
