The Kansas City Chiefs are just hours from kickoff for their second game of the season against the Buffalo Bills.

Before the action gets started, let’s go Inside the Enemy Camp with Brade Andrews, the senior editor of BuffaLowDown, FanSided’s Bills site.

Ryan Fitzpatrick. Still developing or a terrible mistake?

I’m not quite ready to give up on Fitz yet…but time’s really running out for him. He just turns the ball over too much. All three of his INTs against the Jets were inexcusable. That being said, his teammates love him and I think he’s a good fit for the offense. If he can just find a way to be a little more accurate, this will be a pretty successful offense. But patience is starting to wear thin. If he plays poorly Sunday, the boo-birds will be out in force.

I have always liked Chan Gailey. I thought the Chiefs were stupid to fire him. I know things haven’t gone great but it takes time to build a winner. How are Bills fans feeling about Chan?

It’s amazing – before the Jets game I feel Chan had very high approval among the fans…but man, people were ticked after that debacle. I’m still in Chan’s corner. This was an absolute disaster of a roster that he inherited in 2010, and he had last year’s untalented bunch in contention before injuries destroyed their chances. But the Bills need to look a heck of a lot better this week than they did against the Jets, or his seat is suddenly going to get very warm.

Mario Williams wasn’t much of a factor against the Jets. What happened?

If you listen to Williams, he was getting fouled every play, and the scab referees weren’t calling it. Whether that’s true or not – and there’s at least some truth to it – he has to be more of a factor, or it’s going to be a long season.

Who are some young Bills players that KC fans should keep an eye on this week?

Rookie LT Cordy Glenn is a massive, powerful man – but the jury’s still out on whether he can be an NFL left tackle. First-round pick CB Stephon Gilmore had a fantastic preseason but was a complete disaster against the Jets. He’ll likely get matched up with Dwayne Bowe, so that will be interesting. And rookie WR T.J. Graham, inactive in Week 1, will suddenly have a big role with David Nelson out for the year. We’ll see how often his name is called Sunday.

If you could have one player from the Chiefs and put him on the Bills, who would it be?

I feel like Tamba Hali doesn’t get enough credit around the league for how good he is. He might have had the quietest 12-sack season ever last season. I’d kill to have him on my team.

Your prediction for Sunday?

Bills 24, Chiefs 20. The Bills run defense was actually okay last week, and I don’t buy Matt Cassel at all. I think the Buffalo offense will score just enough to sneak out with a win.

The Kansas City Chiefs will travel to Buffalo this weekend to take on the Bills. Both teams will be hoping to avoid going 0-2.

The Bills, not unlike the Chiefs, entered the season with high expectations. The Bills, like the Chiefs, got stomped on opening weekend by the New York Jets.

The Chiefs know all about getting stomped on opening weekend. The Bills beat them 41 to 7 in 2011 at Arrowhead.

The fact of the matter is, Chiefs vs. Bills is becoming quite the rivalry. Sunday will be the 9th time the Chiefs and Bills have met since 2000, with Buffalo holding a 5-3 advantage. In fact, despite being in different divisions, they will meet for the 5th straight season on Sunday, thanks to both teams’ propensity to finish last in their divisions.

The Chiefs always have trouble with the Bills. It doesn’t seem to matter how bad the Bills are or how good the Chiefs are or vice versa.

I wouldn’t expect Sunday will be any different.

Throwing some gas on the Bills/Chiefs fire is the whole Eric Berry/Steve Johnson situation. As most of you know, during last year’s matchup, Johnson threw a low block on Berry. The Pro Bowl safety tore his ACL on the play and his season was over. Johnson was not fined for the block, though some, including Berry, have questioned whether or not the hit was dirty.

Chiefs fans have certainly weighed in on the matter. A number of KC fans have been tweeting to Johnson on Twitter and the Bills WR has responded in kind.

Hahahhaha.. These Kansas City Chefs “fans”… Hahaha

— Stevie Johnson (@StevieJohnson13) September 12, 2012

Then he followed that up with this:

KC Fans Some of ya tweets were harsh! Some made me laugh. I apologize for calling y’all Chefs. Here’s my apology video. youtube.com/watch?v=ffN9jc…

— Stevie Johnson (@StevieJohnson13) September 12, 2012

Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel was asked yesterday if the Berry/Johnson saga made the game any more significant.

“I don’t believe so,” said Crennel. “Last year is last year and this year is this year. We need to focus on this year and trying to get better and trying to win the game.”

Crennel was asked three more questions about the situation which he basically ignored. The fact of the matter is that Crennel won’t do himself any favors by elaborating. With the Saints getting hammered for this bounty business, it would be incredibly foolish for the Chiefs to sit around in their locker room talking about somehow enacting revenge on Johnson.

That doesn’t mean that Berry won’t take the opportunity to put a little extra mustard on a hit to Johnson should he get the chance but I doubt he will do anything illegal. Berry doesn’t strike me as the type of player who would do anything dirty, regardless of whether he thinks Johnson’s hit last year was unethical.

If the Chiefs are looking for revenge, the best way for them to get it will be to go into Buffalo and make the Bills 0-2.

And if Berry laying some wood on Stevie Johnson helps the team achieve that, well, all the better.

Yep, the second half of the game yesterday was pretty painful.

Paddy has already laid out a lot of the good that came out of the game and I don’t want to repeat the same points, but I have to say that, overall, I was also encouraged.

Last week, I wrote that this game would answer the burning question for the Chiefs – whether or not they could score and keep up with high-flying offenses. In the comments, I said, “if they put 28 points on the board and we still lose this game I’ll be satisfied, because at least they will have shown that they are able to get into the end zone. They’ll be getting their defensive stars back soon, and if that’s the only reason they lose this game then it’s nothing to worry about going forward.”

Although we fell slightly short of that, I stand by it and am basically satisfied.

At halftime, the Chiefs were hanging tough with the Falcons, answering them score-for-score at 17-20. Then, the Chiefs were hit with a stream of extremely bad luck. The Chiefs’ second half possessions ended: missed field goal, fumble, interception, interception, punt, touchdown, end of game. Considering neither team punted in the first half, it was clear that there was zero room for error in this game and we couldn’t afford to not score on a single drive. Therefore, when things went awry, it was obvious that the game was going to get out of hand quickly.

John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

Turnovers on three consecutive possessions (especially on your own 20) is enough to kill pretty much any team in any game. If you consider the fact that a missed field goal is essentially a turnover as well, the Chiefs had four in a row. Not all were Cassel’s fault as some have suggested and generally he played a good game.

Simply put, this game was a one-off. LB Justin Houston showed some good moves and got a sack and two QB hits, but we still cannot create consistent pressure without Hali. Having reserves Jacques Reeves and Abram Elam in for CB Brandon Flowers and S Kendrick Lewis is more than a step down, it’s a lifestyle change – our strength was suddenly a weakness. We went from being a Wall Street exec to being a bum, eating a hairy fish on the bus in a Santa suit. There are quite a few teams the Chiefs can beat while eating fish in a Santa suit (cough – Arizona!), but those teams don’t have Roddy White and Julio Jones. We had no answer for those two.

John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

Sometimes the game is just stacked against you and you’re going to end up getting kicked in the mouth. That’s what happened here. For me, the low point was Gonzo dunking on us in the end zone as the Falcons went up by 17. Tony G was my childhood idol – I even played tight end and wore his number at Topeka High – and I for some reason thought he wouldn’t do it. Basically he gave into his quarterback’s urging, which he probably couldn’t refuse, but like the thousands of Chiefs fans booing at Arrowhead, I felt betrayed.

John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

But don’t get down on yourselves, Chiefs fans! As Grandpa Romeo assured us on Twitter, “No one panic…. The Steelers, Saints, Packers, Giants are all 0-1 #StepAwayFromTheLedge.” The vaunted Steelers defense allowed 31 points to the Donkeys. The Saints got smacked around by a rookie at home. But you know what sure feels good after a loss like this? Revenge. No, I’m not suggesting we sleep with Tony Gonzalez’s wife. (But, seriously, if you have her number, do pass it along.)

Denny Medley-US PRESSWIRE

Next week, teed up for our enjoyment are the Buffalo Bills, who just got utterly pummeled 48-28 by the Jets and the hapless offense of Mark Sanchez. Chiefs might also remember, somewhere in the deep recesses of your repressed subconscious, that in last year’s opener, the Chiefs got hammered by the Bills 41-7. We also lost Eric Berry for the season to a low hit from Bills WR Stevie Johnson.

Andrew Weber-US Presswire

Week 2 is our chance to erase the hurt from both of these awful games with a resounding win over the upstate New York Bison. I’m sure Buffalo fans are good, well-meaning people. In fact, they have suffered for the past two decades with similarly disappointing franchises. That said, when the Chiefs come back and trounce Buffalo in their own house, I am going to be screaming at the top of my lungs “IN YOUR FACE!” No score is too high, no celebration too excessive. We will all dance a magnificent obnoxious dance in our crushing victory. Not because it’s the right thing to do, but because it will be effective, and necessary therapy.

The Kansas City Chiefs have some business to attend to today at Arrowhead Stadium but to get to the playoffs they are going to needs some help elsewhere.

The fact that we are sitting here just the day before Christmas talking about KC getting into the playoffs is remarkable. With the injuries to Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles, Tony Moeaki and Eric Berry, plus the firing of Todd Haley, the Chiefs are pretty fortunate to still be in the playoff discussion.

There are a few simple things that need to happen for KC to win the AFC West for the second straight season. I’ll break it down and tell you who you are rooting for today (other than the Chiefs) after the jump.

I woke up Monday to a HeyTell message from my brother asking if it was a dream or if the Chiefs really lost to the Buffalo Bills 41-7 at home. I must admit that although I knew it had happened, I still was shocked enough that I checked “The Website” (as I now call AA) just to verify. It’s a fortunate thing that I am slated to post on Tuesdays, because I’m not so sure I would have had the heart to put pen to paper (or fingers to keys) after the devastating loss suffered by all Chiefs players, staff, and fans Sunday at the hands of the supposedly terrible Buffalo Bills. After waiting eight solid months and going through the dreadful lockout to see KC football again, the performance by the Red and Gold Sunday left me feeling deflated. I responded with jokes as the messages rolled into my phone from friends who are fans of other teams to seem in good humor, but all semblance of taking the game with a grain of salt was feigned. I felt let down to say the least.

I didn’t watch any more football that day, and spent the rest of my time cutting open long-healed scars by watching 9/11 coverage until it was time to go to bed. Hard to believe it’s been 10 years, and that’s all I’m going to say about that.

So what happened? Todd Haley’s press conferences after the loss give me both hope and doubt. It was strangely comforting to hear Todd Haley take full responsibility after the game and mean it. He knew his team was not prepared, and he owned it. His apparent humility gave me hope that he knew his plan had failed, and it was time to revisit his thinking. That despite his careful use of players after the lockout key guys were still injured. With the loss of Moeaki and Berry, now the Chiefs are not only out two of their most influential rookies from last season, but are behind every other team in the NFL as far as preparation. We all knew his preseason tactics were a gamble (admittedly, a very poor one) and now it’s time to focus on next week. But wait, hold the phone, did I hear him say that he and his coaching staff all thought they were 100% ready going into Sunday’s game? This insight is decidedly not good. Todd may be using this as a tactic to avoid saying his offseason/preseason plan failed, but if this is true it means that Todd Haley and his coaching staff are clueless and incompetent beyond anything that anyone has previously conceived (even Double D). This, my friends, is perhaps the most discouraging thought to come out of the entire calamity.

More thoughts on the press conference, and some insight into the game after you click the thing.

The Chiefs’ season is not lost.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s bad. Eric Berry could be seriously injured. Tony Moeaki is lost for the season. The team can’t tackle or move the football. They got blown out at home by a team that, while improved, probably isn’t a Super Bowl contender. They’ve lost seven games in a row, in fairly ugly fashion. Five of those seven games were at Arrowhead. Two of them technically “didn’t matter” but the starters still played poorly.

The hell of it is, crazy as it might sound, I still think the 2011 Chiefs are a much more talented football team than the 2010 Chiefs. Talent isn’t the problem. The problem is a lack of preparedness, combined with a group of inexperienced players.

On the preparedness front, Todd Haley dropped the ball. I don’t know exactly what he did but he messed up. That is clear. The team wasn’t ready. As the San Diego Chargers have taught us year after year, no amount of talent can save you if you aren’t ready to play football when it is time to play football. There is no excuse for a team as talented as the Chiefs playing as poorly as they did yesterday.

Still, the Chiefs did a lot of good this offseason. Cutting Brian Waters was the right move. Not re-signing Mike Vrabel was also smart. Drafting Justin Houston was brilliant. Jon Baldwin, if he can handle his off-field problems, could be a very good receiver. Drafting Rodney Hudson was a solid investment in the team’s future. Re-signing Jamaal Charles at a bargain was shrewd. Going after Steve Breaston and Le’Ron McClain was also smart. Getting Jerrell Powe and Ricky Stanzi as project players at positions of need was the type of move good teams adding depth have to make.

It just didn’t translate into good football Sunday. And it may not for a while.

The Kansas City Chiefs looked every bit as terrible in their season debut as they did in the four preseason games that came before it.

Good thing the preseason and everything that happens during it doesn’t matter, right?

Unfortunately the regular season does matter and the Kansas City Chiefs got spanked.

They couldn’t stop the run, they couldn’t stop the pass and they couldn’t protect the football. The offense was stagnant, the defense was soft and the play calling was suspect. Basically every way the Chiefs could fail in the season opener, they failed.

Every week during the season we go “Inside The Enemy Camp” and interview the editor of the FanSided blog that covers KC’s next <del>victim</del> opponent.

This week we head to the northeast to talk to Brad Andrews of buffalowdown.com. Brad quietly runs one of the best FanSided blogs out there. He took over BLD during the offseason and the site has been steadily growing ever since. It is a fantastic place to read about the Bills. He was kind enough to answer a few of my questions this week.

Let’s go Inside The Enemy Camp with Buffalowdown!

I thought it would have been really cool to see Cam Newton run Chan Gailey’s offense. Unfortunately, the Panthers snatched him up. The Bills are rolling with Fitzy again. How had he looked this preseason? Is he the man or a placeholder?

Not to give a non-answer, but this will really be the year we see what Fitz is made of. He’s never been give an actual chance to be “the man,” as his only real chances to start previously have involved taking over midseason for awful teams. This year he has no excuse. The Bills are not great at tackle and bad at tight end, but they are at least decent everywhere else on offense. He has enough support to put up some decent numbers if he really can play. If he can’t, the Bills will be in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes anyway.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Todd Haley is going to get raked over the coals all week for his gambling ways.

He’s going to get from Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star. He is going to get it from Sam Mellinger too.

I am pretty sure Nick Wright, Bob Fescoe and Shan Shariff of 610 Sports are all going to stick it to KC’s coach on their radio shows this week.

I know for a fact that as I write this, Arrowhead Addict’s own Big Matt is preparing his column and I have a feeling he isn’t going to go easy on Haley.

Jason Whitlock, wherever he is, will make sure to at least tweet that he thinks Haley is an idiot, even if he doesn’t have the time to write an entire column about it.

Haley deserves it. His four-down territory philosophy is flawed when it costs the Chiefs points in a close game and as such, the criticism that is sure to be thrown the coach’s way today is warranted.

Because of that, I’ve decided not to pile on.

I’ve decided to talk about the true grit of the 2010 Kansas City Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs squeaked out a victory against the winless Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday.

A big part of the reason the Chiefs were able to hang on was the play of their defense. KC has been very good against the run all season but they have struggled at times giving up yards through the air.

The Kansas City Chiefs made sure all of their fans got more than a few Halloween scares.

Todd Haley and the Chiefs kept the Buffalo Bills winless by winning the game in the final seconds of overtime on a Ryan Succop FG.

Succop had a chance to win the game earlier when he saw his 39-yard FG get blown off course by the swirling winds of Arrowhead.

The Bills also had their chances. Their first came at the end of regulation when the Bills found themselves on the KC 41-yard line with under a minute to go with the game tied. 10-10. Fitzpatrick dropped back to pass and was intercepted by Chiefs rookie and first round draft pick Eric Berry. The Chiefs failed to advance the ball and the game went in to overtime.

And that is when things got crazy.

Happy Halloween and happy game day Addicts. Today the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium and Todd Haley’s team hopes the scariest thing they’ll have to deal with today is the putrid play of the Buffalo Bills.

No game can be considered easy in the NFL and the Buffalo Bills are desperate for a win. I liken today’s game t a zombie movie. Sure, one on one a zombie isn’t that dangerous. They’re decaying, they’re slow and they’re stupid but the are blood thirsty and will stop at nothing to devourer your brains.

The Buffalo Bills are the zombie today. They are 0-6. They aren’t going to win ten straight and make the playoffs. They have nothing to lose but another game. Trick plays, 4th down conversions, options, it is all available for the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs had better keep their heads on a swivel or the Buffalo Bills might just sneak out of the dark, bite them and turn them into the zombies of the AFC West.

Tricks and treats after the jump.

The Kansas City Chiefs have released their official injury report for their Halloween showdown with the Buffalo Bills.

Three players appeared on the report.

Ryan Lilja (hand) is listed as questionable but he was a full participant in practice. If we are to believe Nick Wirght’s report from last night, Lilja has a broken thumb and will play. My guess is that Wright is right. Lilja is a touch SOB. He’ll tape that sucker up and play.

Reshard Langford (ankle), who has been injured since Kimble Anders played for the Chiefs, is questionable and was limited at practice.

Last but most certainly not least, we come to WR Dexter McCluster (ankle). Wright reported last night that McCluster has a high ankle sprain and will miss several weeks. High ankle sprains are tricky and the key to getting them healed is rest. If McCluster tries to play on the bas ankle he could make things worse.

No disrespect to the Bills but this may be the easiest game the Chiefs play all year. They are more than capable of winning it without McCluster. I think if rest is what the rookie needs, rest is what he will get this Sunday. My guess is the team is listing him as questionable just to make Buffalo prepare for DMC, even if just a little.

What do you think Addicts? Will DMC play on Sunday?

Going into Sunday’s game, most Kansas City Chiefs fans feel that we’ve got this game in the bag.

Why shouldn’t we?

There are a lot of things in our favor for the game against the Buffalo Bills. We rank 12th on offense, they rank 27th. We rank 17th on defense, they rank 28th. We have the best rushing offense in the NFL. We play the game at Arrowhead Stadium, where we are currently undefeated. We have a winning record. The Bills are 0-6. Looking at all of this I should feel assured that the Chiefs come away with the victory. This game seems like it should be an easy win. But is it too easy?

Here are three reasons why Buffalo could trap the Chiefs in a loss come Halloween.

Welcome to our Chiefs/Bills game preview. We try to do a post every week where we go “Inside The Enemy Camp” to scout the Chiefs next opponent.

I spoke with Paul Mill over at Buffalowdown, Fansided’s Bills blog. Here is what he had to say.

AA: I will start out with the Chan Gailey connection. Chan was the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs under Herm Edwards. Chiefs fans most remember him for the remarkable work he did with QB Tyler Thigpen that made a horrible season somewhat fun to watch.

I’ve always thought Chan has never gotten a fair shot at being a head coach. With the Bills being 0-6, what are your impressions of him so far? do you think he is a bum or that he is trying to turn around the franchise the right way?

BLD: It’s tough to judge a guy only 7 weeks into the season, and my verdict isn’t out yet with Chan Gailey.

But I will say that I really like how Gailey is a no nonsense type of coach. Even going back to earlier in the year, Gailey was working this team hard during training camp and the preseason , something that players weren’t use to under the Dick Jauron regime, and the hard work is finally starting to show out on the field.

More after the jump.

The Kansas City Chiefs will face a different Buffalo Bills defense than most teams have face this year.

The Bills, who played a 4-3 defense in 2009 switched to a 3-4 defense upon the arrival of former Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Unfortunately for the Bills, they didn’t have the personnel to run the 3-4 and have been gradually switching back to a 4-3 base set. According to an article from Pro Football Talk, the Bills used 4-3 sets on most plays against the Baltimore Ravens last week.

The result?

They gave up 250 yards through the air, 135 yards on the ground and 37 points in an overtime loss.

The Bills may be more comfortable in the 4-3 set but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference against the Ravens.

What do you think Addicts? Will the Bills defense benefit from the change back to the 4-3 or will it just make things worse?

The Kansas City Chiefs are a very bad matchup for the Buffalo Bills.

Then again, everyone is a bad matchup for the Buffalo Bills.

Yet the Chiefs are particularly bad. The Bills seem to be improving somewhat on the offensive side of the ball but their defense is utterly putrid. The only team in the NFL that has given up more points than the Bills is the Jacksonville Jaguars and that is only because the Bills have already had their bye week.

How bad has the Bills defense been? They have given up 198 points in six games.

Here is the breakdown:

In a recent article on SFGate.com, home of the San Francisco Chronicle, David White reported that Raiders have been offered the opportunity to trade out of the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Citing an unnamed source, White claims that an unnamed team offered the Raiders their 2010 second round pick and their 2011 first round pick for the 8th pick in this years draft. Remember, the Raiders foolishly traded away their 2011 first round pick to the New England Patriots for Richard Seymour. Taking this deal would move the team out of the first round this year but would give them two 2nd round selections. The extra 2nd rounder should be attractive to the Raiders as it is being reported that they may offer their current 2nd round pick to the Eagles for QB Donnovan McNabb. Essentially, if the Raiders were to take the deal and trade for McNabb, they would have acquired Richard Seymour and Donnovan McNabb for a 2010 first round pick. Not too shabby, eh?

Terrell Owens is now a member of the Buffalo Bills. Personally, for one year at $6.5 million this a no-brainer for the Buffalo Bills. Why?

1. They have a young, promising quarterback who desperately needs a more consistent No. 1 receiver than Lee Evans. An average fleet of receivers just became a top-rate fleet.

2. The Bills didn’t look like a playoff team on paper before today. They might be now, even in a tough division. This is especially true if they draft well. The Dolphins and Jets aren’t insurmountable.

3. Money. The Bills are playing a game in Canada every year while rumors about them relocating to Los Angeles circulate. No other possible personnel move could have stirred up this kind of buzz for a franchise that desperately needed to create some buzz.

4. If T.O. screws up this year, not only will he never play in the NFL again (probably), but he’ll punch his ticket out of the Hall of Fame. He has to behave.

5. That being said, T.O. for one year at $6.5 million, or Laveranues Coles for four years at $28 M. Simple, right?

6. Unlike Marvin Harrison, T.O. was reportedly clocked running faster speeds than he ever had before heading into last season. He can still separate.

Now, for a lot of teams this would have been either not enough (our Chiefs and the Raiders come to mind) or an unnecessary gamble (Patriots and Titans). But for the Bills bringing in Terrell Owens was a move worth making. I’m glad we didn’t touch him, but you gotta appreciate the set of big bison balls on the Bills front office. I hate the Cowboys, so I’m rooting for it to work out.

Addicts, sound off on T.O. in Buffalo. Will it work out? Were any other teams really interested?

I must admit, my favorite response by a mock drafter thus far has been Cornelius‘. First off, he start off with a wisecrack back at yours truly — which is always appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed — the whole thing was entertaining. Not only was it entertaining, but it was also informative. The New Orleans Saints clearly did their research before nabbing CB Leodis McKelvin out of Troy — also known as the small school in BFE that embarrassed Mizzou on national TV a few years back. I still remember the clip of that big ol’ defensive tackle pulling a Shaun Rigers before Big Baby even did. Anyways, Porter Park and the Buffalo Bills are up, a team that despite its record I know is worse off than we are. Good luck…
