You probably already knew this but Larry Johnson is an ass. He always has been an ass and it looks as though he always will be an ass.

Larry made some comments recently on WPGC’s Lil’ Mo Show in DC that confirmed this fact.

Before I get to that, lets take a quick look at how Johnson went from KC Pro Bowler to Cincinnati Bengal to Washington Redskin.

It all started when Johnson was riding the bench behind Chiefs great, Priest Holmes. Johnson had been complaining publicly about his lack of playing time, despite being the back up for one of the games best running backs. Johnson was too stupid to understand that he was drafted as an insurance policy to Holmes. Priest had been injury prone and Kansas City wanted another dynamic back available in case he went down again, which he eventually did. Larry was always going to get his chance but instead of being a humble, team player and waiting his turn, he griped to the media.

Johnson’s behavior led then Chiefs head coach, Dick Vermiel to say that it was time for Johnson to “take his diapers off.”

Vermiel’s words created quite a stir. Johnson was pissed and the media seemed to think it was uncalled for.

We all now know, Dick was right. Vermiel knew Johnson was immature and hotheaded and that is likely why he was keeping him on the bench. Holmes was injured and Vermiel was simply saying Johnson needed to grow up and grow up fast.

For a while, LJ made Vermeil look foolish for sitting him for so long. He went off once he finally got on the field, racking up huge rushing numbers. Still, if you were paying attention you could see that Johnson wasn’t anywhere near as talented as Holmes.

Filed to ESPN: Chester Taylor reaches agreement with Bears on a four-year, $12.5 million deal that includes $7 million gtd in year one.

The Chiefs were at one time rumored to be interested in Taylor though it looks like the BEars snatched him up.

On the Chris Chambers front, Bengals.com is reporting that the team could be interesting in plucking up Chris Chambers:

Owens is just part of a list that includes Antonio Bryant, Kevin Walter, Chris Chambers, and Josh Reed. The way head coach Marvin Lewis talked last week at the NFL scouting combine, the Bengals aren’t looking to make a quick, lucrative deal. But in the past they have put out feelers on the first day and then waited for the market to settle.

Still no word on any Chiefs interests from any of my sources.

The commercial that didn’t air during the Super Bowl:

Mmmm. Smell that? That is the putrid smell of Paul Brown Stadium in despicable Cincinnati, Ohio.

Weighed down by too much money and drugs? Bored with slapping women and spitting drinks in their faces? Weary of running down construction workers drunk and high at dawn? Finally out of jail?

Get away and start over at the luxurious Cincinnati Bengals Halfway House and Resort. We’ll be your home away from home, paying you millions of dollars to play a game and bring shame to our organization.

Domestic violence? Drug possession? Gun possession? Murder? No problem. All are welcome, here at lovely Paul Brown stadium.

Well, what are you waiting for? Call Marvin Lewis and book a private workout free of charge!

The Cincinnati Bengals: The NFL’s version of Australia.

In case you have missed it, over the past few days, the Cincinnati Bengals have completely lost their minds. It was one thing when the signed free agent Larry Johnson, released by the team that drafted him, the Kansas City Chiefs, during the season. The KANSAS CITY CHIEFS! In case you hadn’t noticed, things aren’t going all that well in KC. They can use all the talent they can get. Then again, Larry Johnson really isn’t talented any more so that probably made the decision easier on the Chiefs. The fans in Kansas City hated Johnson so much they started a petition urging the team to dump the woman beater so that he wouldn’t break Priest Holmes’ franchise rushing record.

Did that deter the Bengals? No sir. They needed insurance in case Cedric Benson didn’t get better. They brought in L.J. and his baggage too, for a bargain league minimum. It takes a special kind of desperation to hire a guy another company is paying millions of dollars NOT to come to work there anymore.

ESPN’s Chris Mortenson is reporting that former Jacksonville Jaguars WR, Matt Jones, is going to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals.

It was reported yesterday that Jones worked out for both the Titans and the Bengals and that both had offered him contracts.

Last year, during training camp, as the Chiefs WR needs became apparent, many Chiefs fans were calling for the team to work out Jones.

The Bengals seem to be a destination for troubled players. Chiefs fans may remember a certain, Larry Johnson, being kicked out of town and landing in Cinci.

We’ll have more if and when this story develops. What do you think, Addicts? Should the Chiefs have made a move to acquire Jones?

** Note** Chris Mortenson also said that the Chiefs were going to sign Mike Shannahan to be their head coach so…grain of salt and all that.

They’ll see names like Favre, Rivers, Manning, Brees, Brady and Warner. It is apparent you need a QB in today’s NFL more than ever. If the Rams don’t get one now, they aren’t getting one in this draft.

Marshall’s absence is a huge break for the Chiefs. With a 1,000-yard receiver out of the mix, Kansas City will likely be able to scheme Denver similar to the way the defense played Cincinnati last week. S Mike Brown had an excellent game in run-support logging a team-leading 13 tackles. Typically, it’s not a good sign for a safety to be the tackle leader, but many of Brown’s tackles occurred near the line of scrimmage.

For the majority of the game, Brown walked up as an eighth man in the box. He typically rolled to the weak side and ran the cutback ally to counter rushing lines created by Cincinnati’s mammoth offensive line. The scheme was effective, limiting Cincinnati to just 43 rushing yards in the first half before RB Cedric Benson finally broke a 32-yard run on the first play of the third quarter.

Sure, the Chiefs may not be able to stop Cedric Benson, especially not when they are in the habit of giving up 250 plus yards to Jerome Harrison but Johnson, and his evil, must be stopped

The Chiefs may not have much but they do have a chance make a major impact on the playoff race. They have already contributed to the potential downfall of the defending Super Bowl Champion Steelers and can now turn their attention to the stumbling Bengals and Broncos.

The AFC playoff picture is slowly coming into focus. The Chargers clinched the AFC West yesterday with a win and Denver’s loss. The Colts clinched the AFC South and home field advantage throughout the playoffs ages ago and with 2 games to go and a 2 game lead, the Patriots have all but wrapped up the AFC East.

That leaves the AFC North and two Wild Card spots yet to be decided. The Chiefs next opponent, the Cincinnati Bengals currently hold a 1 game lead in the North over the Baltimore Ravens. The lead is really two games as Cinci swept the series between the two teams and holds the tie-breaker over the Ravens. The Bengals simply need to defeat the Chiefs next Sunday to clinch the division. A Bengals loss, however, and a Baltimore win would throw the AFC playoff race into total chaos.

The reason is because of a very tight Wild Card race. The Ravens (8-6) and Broncos (8-6) are currently in the drivers seats. If both win out they will clinch the two Wild Cards. The clean way for this all to go would be for Cinci to win 1 of their last 2 games and for Baltimore and Denver to win out. The monkey in the wrench, however, is the Kansas City Chiefs and a slew of 7-7 teams in the AFC.

Let me illustrate how crowded and complicated the Chiefs can make the AFC Wild Card race.

Current Wild Card Standings:

Denver (8-6)
Baltimore (8-6)
——————————————————————-
Miami (7-7)
Jets (7-7)
Pittsburgh (7-7)
Jacksonville (7-7)
Tennessee (7-7)
Houston (7-7)

I don’t even want to think of what tie breaking nightmare will occur if 8 teams finish 9-7! Now I haven’t looked at everyone’s schedule to see if that is even possible, and I highly doubt that it is, but you get the idea.

The Chiefs may have had a failed season but their remaining games are very important, if not for their confidence going into the off season, then to the teams they are facing. The Ravens play the Steelers and the Raiders for their final two games. If they win out and the Chiefs beat the Bengals it would set up what might be a win and your in game between the Bengals and Jets in Week 17.

The Chiefs can also do some damage in week 17. If the Broncos get by the Eagles next week they will be 9-6 going into their game against Kansas City at Mile High. The Chiefs and Broncos play at 4:15 EST on January 3rd. The Chiefs may have some extra fans in this game as supporters of potential Wild Card Teams that won earlier in the day and sit at 9-7, holding a tie-breaker over the Broncos cheer for a Chiefs victory. The Broncos conference record is an average 6-5 so losing to the Chiefs could be a death-blow to their tie-breaker chances.

Chiefs don’t have much to celebrate this year but a chance to eliminate the rival Denver Broncos from playoff contention on their own field in the last game of the season might make the off season just a little more bearable.
