A very popular draft prospect around Chiefs Nation is nose tackle prospect Phil Taylor out of Baylor.

Taylor is considered to be a late first, early second round draft prospect on a lot of boards but recent news has broken that Taylor could have an injury issue that could make him a huge risk and kill his draft stock.

According to a report by Rob Rang on cbssports.com, Taylor’s MRI’s taken at the NFL Scouting Combine revealed a problem in his feet.

Taylor, according to MRIs taken at the Combine, has bones growing together in his feet. The condition, which according to the source is not correctable through surgery, is a pain tolerance issue. Considering that Taylor played much of his senior season at 330-340 pounds — and has allowed his weight to get into the 380s in the past — teams are concerned that his weight will only make the injury tougher to handle.

Uh oh.

Now we know that you can’t take everything you hear this time of year to the bank. It is lying season in the NFL and team officials and anonymous sources will say anything and everything to disguise their actual plans and to throw other teams off their scent.

That doesn’t appear to be the case here. Rang called various teams around the league and confirmed that Tylor is getting red flagged by team doctors. The worry seems to be that although Taylor was durable in college, this issue in his feet has the potential to wear on him, especially for a big man.

Many Chiefs fans, including myself, believed that nose tackle is such an important need that Taylor might be worth reaching for at #21. Now that this report has broken, I think the Chiefs should probably avoid Taylor.

What do you think Addicts? Can Taylor play through the pain or is he about to see a major draft slide?

With the first pick in the 2011 Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft, Chiefs Nation select Phil Taylor, nose tackle out of Baylor.

Arrowhead Addict and NFL Mocks are conducting the first ever Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft. Our panel of four Mockers will each select a different pick for the Chiefs in each round. We will then present those picks to Chiefs Nation so that the fans can vote and complete the Ultimate Chiefs Mock Draft. The mock will go all seven rounds.

The first round pick, as decided by Chiefs Nation is Phil Taylor. It seems Chiefs fans are hungry to fill the NT position and Taylor will certainly be able to do that.

In selecting Taylor, Chiefs Nation passed on OT Derrick Sherrod out of Mississippi State, OT Gabe Carimi out of Wisconsin and OLB Aldon Smith our of Missouri.

Smith was the closest to Taylor in the first round voting. Taylor received 110 of the 209 votes cast. Smith was the runner up with 48. 29 votes went to Carimi and 17 to Sherrod.

Now that the NT position is filled, the Mockers will likely turn their attention to other positions of need for the Chiefs in round 2.

The second round options will be posted soon so keep an eye out for that.

Looks like round 1 goes to Andrew Crocker, who presented Taylor as his choice.

For now, what do you think Addicts? Are you happy with the first round selection of Phil Taylor?

According to the National Football Post, the Kansas City Chiefs have worked out popular NT prospect Phil Taylor out of Baylor.

From NFP:

Massive Baylor nose guard Phil Taylor conducted three workouts, including sessions with the Cleveland Browns, Kansas CIty Chiefs and an undisclosed AFC playoff team, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

Taylor has six visits and five private workouts over the next few weeks.

Last week for Draft Thursday, AA staff writer Merlin did a breakdown of the NT prospects in this year’s draft. You can see his full Merlin’s Magic column here. Check out his breakdown of Phil Taylor after the jump.

For those Kansas City Chiefs fans who are able to watch the NFL Network, last week offered you an opportunity to watch the first important milestone leading up to the NFL Draft. The event I’m referring to is the Senior Bowl. Representatives from every NFL team and press from all over come to watch senior college players practice for the game. Earlier, Arrowhead Addict’s Draft Guru Merlin gave some information on some players for the North team. I’m here to discuss some of the players from the South team that stood out to me.

Von Miller Texas A & M Outside Linebacker 6’2” 237 lbs.

Miller was a sack machine when he played for the Aggies. He was recovering from an ankle injury early in his 2010 season and so was held to only 10.5 sacks (which was down from 2009’s 17 sacks). His play has been compared to a player some of you may have heard of before, former Kansas City Chief Derrick Thomas. While Miller is a tremendous pass rusher, he is very raw in pass coverage. Also, there are questions about his ability to play against the run. His Senior Bowl performance was a showcase for his pass rushing ability and athleticism, which is how he earned Defensive MVP.
