The 2013 NFL Pro Bowl is in the books and if it was indeed the last ever Pro Bowl, it was at least a decent ending to the NFL’s traditional all-star game.

The NFC defeated the AFC 62 to 35 but the effort from the players, while clearly not what we are used to seeing from NFL games, was much improved over 2012. The NFL will decide later this year whether to continue on with the exhibition game.

The six Kansas City Chiefs players taking part in the game certainly made their mark. Linebacker Derrick Johnson intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown.

The Chiefs were also active in the tackling department. Both Johnson and safety Eric Berry led the AFC in tackles with six each. All in all, Chiefs defenders Johnson, Berry, and linebackers Justin Houston and Tamba Hali combined for 17 of the AFC’s 52 tackles.

On offense, RB Jamaal Charles received only three carries for 12 yards. Naturally, he was the AFC’s leading rusher.

Lastly, punter Dustin Colquitt, had four punts for 206 yards. It seemed that in this all-star game, Colquitt decided to prove he could average huge yards per punt averages if he wanted to. He scored a 51.5 average on his four punts.

Sadly, it was the last Chiefs-related football we will see until next August.

The 2013 NFL Pro Bowl kicks off tonight. It could be the last Pro Bowl ever if the players don’t put forth more effort, according to the league.

The 2013 NFL Pro Bowl rosters were announced this evening. The Kansas City Chiefs will be sending five players and a couple of them are surprises.

Here they are:

1. Jamaal Charles
2. Tamba Hali
3. Derrick Johnson
4. Eric Berry
5. Dustin Colquitt

Berry and Hali are starters, as is Colquuitt.

I have to say, a couple of these surprise me. We told you a few days ago that Eric Berry was regaining his Pro Bowl form but I didn’t think enough people would have noticed in time to get him there this year. Looks like I was wrong.

Tamba Hali had an excellent year, though it was a down year for him.

The most deserved selection here, save Charles, is Dustin Colquitt. He has been so good for so long and has been passed up for punters with better average yards per-punt. Finally, Colquitt is being recognized for his ability to pin teams deep.
