My fantasy is drafting an elite quarterback –Geno Smith, specifically — but, it will likely take a blockbuster trade to get that accomplished.

For the Chiefs to climb that volcano and drop the ring of power — the power that losing has held over this organization — into the lava of Mordor, they’ll need someone young to lead them — a franchise-caliber QB — one who will guide them for a decade or more.

To do that the Chiefs will need to take a big risk. It won’t be easy. Risks never are. In this case the risk will be to trade key players and/or high round picks to gain control of the first pick in the draft.

Gaining the first pick is no guarantee that the Chiefs will end up with a franchise QB. However, it is now a move the Chiefs must make.

Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft, Round 5, Pick #135

Adam: (5A)

Pick: Bilal Powell, RB, Louisville

Explanation: Many Chiefs’ fans feel that RB Thomas Jones is done.  Despite that, the Chiefs have said that they will have Jones for another year.  So if he’s going to be there for another year, why not take advantage of his experience by allowing him to pass it on to his replacement.  In his senior year Powell managed a 6.1 yards per carry average.  The Chiefs’ running game is too important to not make sure that the running back stable is well stocked.  Bring in Powell and he can get mentored by a class act in the NFL while adjusting to the game.  Then next year, if Jones is gone, then Powell can step up and be the compliment to Jamaal Charles from Day 1.

There are a lot of mock drafts flying around these days so we here at Arrowhead Addict decided to try to bring you a different and interactive mock draft experience.

We’ve teamed up with FanSided’s draft Site NFL Mocks to bring you the first ever Kansas City Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft!

Basically, we have a panel of four mockers presenting four unique picks for every round of the Chiefs 2011 draft. The mockers are picking in a snaking order and once one mocker takes a player, he can no longer be selected by the others. The result is four realistic and unique options in each round. After the mockers present their picks, AA readers are voting on their favorite selection. Whichever players the readers pick will be the official Chiefs Nation selection in the Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft. The mockers will abide by the picks of Chiefs Nation as they continue on in the full seven round mock. When it is all over, we will have hopefully constructed the most fan friendly mock draft possible.

Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft, Round 3, Pick #86

Pick: Edmund Gates, Wide Receiver, Abilene Christian

Explanation: Speed is the ultimate weapon. In every sport. There is no single physical characteristic that requires defenses in every league there is to adjust more radically than pure, unrestrained speed. NFL defenses are generously scared of it. NFL defenses largely scheme every offense they face by trying to mitigate any potential problem they could face. And few problems are tougher to solve than speed. Jamaal Charles could vouch for that. With the rules skewed in this league to facilitate high-flying offenses, it is time to bring the Kansas City Chiefs into the new era of football.

We’ve got the running back, we’ve got the tight end, we’ve got the Pro Bowl receiver. What we sorely lack is a one-dimensional speed demon to push opposing coverages deep. You think Bowe & Charles put up good numbers with stacked boxes against them? Wait until they have to face defenses that Edmund Gates keeps honest. Gates blasted the roof off the Combine with his 4.37 40 and measured in at just a quarter inch below 6′ tall. Gates has unbelievable hands — he can make the circus catches (imagine those in Chiefs highlight reels, along with Bowe and Moeaki!). His biggest weakness is his immaturity and his lack of polish. Under Todd Haley, those concerns won’t last long. This is a third round selection that could change this team’s future.

We’ve teamed up with FanSided’s draft Site NFL Mocks to bring you the first ever Kansas City Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft!

How it works:

Three staff members from Arrowhead Addict, along with a representative from NFL Mocks are each going to provide a full, seven round mock draft for the Chiefs.

The first twist is that each participant will pick in a rotating order throughout the mock. Once a player is off the board in a given round, the next mocker cannot choose that player for his mock draft. The end result will be four complete, seven round mock drafts with no repeat selections. The mockers will use the Big Board over at Draft Tek.

How does this all add up to an “Ultimate Chiefs Mock Draft?”

I’m glad you asked.

As the picks roll in, we will post all four selections from each round in a poll on Arrowhead Addict. The readers will chose which mockers pick they like the best in each round. The winner of each poll will have their pick entered as the official selection of Chiefs Nation in the Ultimate Chiefs Mock Draft.

Why are we doing this?

We are doing this for a couple of reasons. For starters, we wanted to approach the mock draft from a new and interesting perspective. Instead of bombarding you with four mock drafts that are all similar, you will get four totally unique mocks. The process is designed to educate Chiefs Nation about the various options available to the Chiefs in each round while also making the reader apart of the process by having them choose the best pick in each round.
