Marcus Peters earns respect from peers as NFL’s best
By Matt Conner
Someone on Twitter asked Casey Hayward who he believed the NFL’s best cornerbacks were and Marcus Peters made the list.
Two years into his NFL career, Marcus Peters has already become everything the Kansas City Chiefs could have hoped for. From his ability to make game-changing plays to completely shutting down a team’s finest receiver, Peters has been a revelation for the Chiefs secondary. And not only have the fans and media been paying attention, but his peers have as well.
On Wednesday, San Diego Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward, who put up a stellar year last season himself, was asked on Twitter to list the NFL’s best corners. His response:
Just a minute later, Hayward realized his error in putting Peters with Peterson, as in Patrick of the Arizona Cardinals. He corrected it, saying:
It’s great to see that Peters is earning rave reviews from his peers, because it’s well-deserved attention. He’s overcome any character concerns coming into the NFL that forced him to slip out of the top 10 and all the way to the Chiefs at No. 18. He’s definitely improved year over year, and it’s going to be very entertaining to see just how high Peters’ ceiling is.
Through two full seasons, Peters has 14 career interceptions, good for No. 25 on the Chiefs all-time list. If that sounds fast, it is. He’s already tied with Eric Berry and Derrick Johnson, who have each played many more seasons than Peters, obviously. When all is said and done, no one would be surprised if he approaches Emmitt Thomas’s career record of 58—even if that would take persistent greatness over the long haul. Peters certainly has it in him.
