The Kansas City Chiefs will continue to interview for their new GM with Ryan Cowden’s visit on Wednesday.

Ryan Cowden has been Director of Player Personnel for the Tennessee Titans for only a single season, but he might be moving on if he hits off well enough with Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt. Cowden is in town to visit Arrowhead Stadium and take in a day with the Chiefs as he interviews for the General Manager position made available after John Dorsey’s exit from the team last Friday.

Cowden is visiting with the Chiefs on Wednesday, per Ian Rapoport, in a busy week that will also include a complete interview with in-house candidate Brett Veach, currently a co-Director of Player Personnel, and likely others such as Louis Riddick or Scott Fitterer if the search proceeds as expected.

Cowden joined the Titans in 2016 after 16 seasons with the Carolina Panthers as both a scout and front office exec. He’s rumored to be a strong evaluator, but whether or not he has enough oversight experience could be an issue. He only recently became a Director of Player Personnel, whereas in previous years, he’d served as Assistant Director of College Scouting at his highest level with Carolina. In other words, there’s likely a lot he hasn’t had to learn or at least be responsible for just yet.

Cowden’s time will certainly come at some point in the NFL, and if that time is now, then it will likely mean the Chiefs will help ease him into the role, especially in matter of the salary cap.
