The peculiar timing of the Kansas City Chiefs’ General Manager search has a lot of analysts pushing differing opinions. the Truth may lie somewhere in the middle of all the confusion.

The big story in Chiefs Kingdom over the past week has been the release of John Dorsey from his contract as GM. On today’s show, we talk to Ben Allbright who provides insight into the reasons Dorsey was let go. There have been many reports as to why the Chiefs moved on when they did but this one isn’t one that is getting a lot of national attention yet.

Dorsey’s tenure in Kansas City was raved about when talking about talent acquisition. The Chiefs have struggled is when it comes to the salary cap and that has become harder and harder to shuffle each year. Allbright also offers another point of view about the direction of where the Chiefs are probably headed when they hire their next GM and what else might be in store.

Despite weekend rumors or scheduled interviews, the leading candidate may indeed already be on the Kansas City payroll. Will courtesy interviews be given to candidates with old ties to Andy Reid? Most likely. Is Brett Veach already the leading candidate by a wide margin? That too is most likely.

The team has a short time window in which to conduct and conclude, a search for the team’s next General Manager. If training camp opens without someone at the helm, the distraction will not be the only drawback. The team needs to be able to make cuts, trades and waiver claims in August. The clock is ticking.
