Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Justin Cox has been cleared of assault charges, which he hopes will pave the way back into the CFL.

Earlier this offseason, Justin Cox had his professional football dreams terminated when the Canadian Football League decided to ban him outright from signing and suiting up for any team in the league. Now the CFL has another decision to make facing them in the near future: do they allow Cox to be back in the league now that he’s been cleared of the original assault charges which caused them to ban him in the first place.

Cox maintained his innocence even after the judgment came down from the CFL and when the charges were initially leveled against him .

While the CFL, at this point, looks like they might have jumped the gun on Cox’s ban, it’s not as if Cox has earned the benefit of the doubt at this point. Cox was arrested for domestic violence as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2015 and was subsequently released. No one else in the NFL would touch him at that point, which led to his career in the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Cox was also suspended in college after being charged with domestic violence at Mississippi State. Hence the short leash from the CFL.

"“Hopefully I can get to wear that green and white again and you know, play football again, period,” said Cox after the chargers were waived."
