The Los Angeles Rams released former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Aaron Murray on Thursday.

Aaron Murray has yet to find a long-term home within which to develop his game. For most young quarterbacks, there’s a place at No. 2 or No. 3 overall on the depth chart from where he is able to learn the schemes and systems intimately but Murray has yet to catch on.

The Kansas City Chiefs spent a fifth round pick on Aaron Murray back in the 2014 NFL Draft but he never saw the field. Murray was released last season along with then-rookie Kevin Hogan as the Chiefs dumped both young quarterbacks for the sake of keeping Tyler Bray and signing veteran Nick Foles heading into the 2016 regulars season.

Murray spent short stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams over the past calendar year but has failed to catch on. Despite a strong collegiate resume that included 121 career touchdowns as a four-year starter at Georgia, Murray hasn’t been able to translate that ability to the pro level.

If Murray wants to keep playing, he will likely find a team willing to give him a shot in training camp, or perhaps the CFL will come calling, but any notion that he has a chance to eventually become a starter in the NFL is now a thing of the past. Murray willl be lucky to stick on an NFL roster this fall.
