The Kansas City Chiefs might lose another member of the front office to the new general manager opening in Buffalo.

The Indianapolis Colts were the first to raid the Kansas City Chiefs front office this offseason when they named Chris Ballard as their new general manager. Clearly John Dorsey and company are doing something right because now the Buffalo Bills are ready to hire a replacement for the newly-fired Doug Whaley and another Chiefs executive, Brett Veach, has been named as a potential candidate.

Fortunately for the Chiefs, if there’s a good time to lose a front office executive, it’s likely now in the season immediately after the NFL Draft. The hard work has been done and the team is likely taking a rest at some point in the near future, if not immediately then likely in the weeks after rookie mini-camp is over. Losing another person so intimately familiar with the workings of Dorsey would hurt, but this is the fruit of creating a winning culture — others want a part of it.

Veach came to the Chiefs with Andy Reid after starting as an assistant to Reid and serving as a regional scout. Now Veach also has experience working with Dorsey and has learned from both sides. Veach was promoted to co-director of player personnel along with Mike Borgonzi two years ago, working directly under Ballard.
