2017 NFL Draft: Tanoh Kpassagnon arrives just in time

With the 59th pick in the 2017 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have selected defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon from Villanova.

Just six days ago the Chiefs released defensive lineman Jaye Howard with a failed physical designation. The loss of Howard left an immediate hole on the depth chart, and left many wondering if the Chiefs would select a defensive lineman high in the draft. Well there’s no wondering anymore.

Tanoh Kpassagnon (Pronounced: Tawn-oh pass-N-yo) is long with 35 5/8th inch arm length, tall at 6′ 7”, and has plenty of room to add on more weight at just 289lbs. Kpassagnon will likely compete with Allen Bailey for the defensive end spot opposite Chris Jones. But will likely only see limited

snaps as he is still very raw. The job will go to Andy Reid’s son Britt Reid, who is the Chiefs defensive line coach, to mold Kpassagnon.

The things to look out most are the concerns that Kpassagnon has issues with body control and contact balance. He is very prone to getting turned losing his base, and will get taken out of the play. But there’s no denying Kpassagnon is the prototypical defensive end that Andy Reid and Bob Sutton seem to like. He’s got all of the physical talents to succeed it’s up to him to make it happen.
