The Kansas City Chiefs could be a perfect fit for Josh Gordon should the NFL reinstate him and the Browns decide to let him go.

The Cleveland Browns have been waiting patiently for Josh Gordon to jump through the proper hoops for reinstatement into the NFL, leaving open the door for the talented yet troubled young wide receiver. Until now, there seemed to be little drama at present between both parties, but Gordon’s Snapchat account took an unexpected turn on Tuesday.

It’s unknown what this means, and any sort of interpretation is merely conjecture at this point. But if the Browns are going to release Gordon or even attempt to trade him away, it could present an interesting opportunity for a team like the Kansas City Chiefs, a franchise which would provide a perfect home for a player like Gordon.

More than anything else, the Chiefs could provide Josh Gordon with a measure of stability that he’s never had in the NFL. Instead of the rotating cast of coaches employed by Cleveland over the last half-decade, the Chiefs are led by a steady regime who are ready to re-sign contract extensions soon enough. Andy Reid is a veteran coach who has endured the venomous fans in Philly, the return of dog-killer Michael Vick, and every plausible scenario in his nearly 300 games as an NFL head coach.

Along with the steady locker room and dependable coaching staff, the Chiefs already have a handful of playmakers on offense in Travis Kelce, Jeremy Maclin and Tyreek Hill. Gordon wouldn’t face unhealthy expectations with the Chiefs. Rather he would be able to slowly return to form and provide the Chiefs offense with yet another option for Alex Smith in the passing game.

For the Chiefs, Gordon would enhance a wide receiving corps that could use another playmaker. There’s no big physical target like Gordon on the roster right now, at least not a proven one, and the chance to get a player of Gordon’s talent and stature at such a buy-low point should prove irresistible if given the chance.

Gordon hasn’t played since the 2014 NFL season and even then he only played in five games, but given his youth and natural ability, it’s still a worthwhile move for the Chiefs if the Browns have opened the door in one way or another.
