Adam Schefter says the Kansas City Chiefs are making a “strong push” to sign Eric Berry to a new extension by the franchise tag deadline.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Eric Berry’s representatives continue to work on a deal that could still happen by the franchise tag deadline. Adam Schefter says the Chiefs are making a “strong push” to make it happen.

The Chiefs and Berry have been unable to reach a long-term deal over the last year or more, which is why Berry played the last season under the franchise tag. It’s also why Berry said he wouldn’t do so again, to apply pressure to make a long-term deal into a reality.

The Chiefs were previously reported, by Ed Werder, to be prepared to tag Berry again and let Dontari Poe walk, but if they have the chance to sign Berry before the deadline, the team might even have a chance to tag Poe instead.

Berry had 77 tackles and 4 interceptions last season for the Chiefs.
