This defense still looks like the walking wounded

Injuries are still concerned heading into this weekend’s game against the Denver Broncos. Thanksgiving Day saw a notable absence from practice. Outside linebacker Dee Ford was unable to practice and remains a question mark for Sunday. Ford is still battling a hamstring injury. His progress this season has been remarkable. It would be a lift for Kansas City if he can play Sunday.

Joining Ford on the sidelines Thursday were defensive lineman Jaye Howard and cornerback Stephen Nelson. Both of these players could play critical roles if available against the Broncos. If they cannot play, if puts a considerable chink in the defense’s armor. Their practice status on Friday will be an indication of their chances for playing Sunday night.

As for the offense, one major contributor is still sidelined. Number one wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is still recovering from a groin strain. His availability for Sunday Night Football is also yet to be determined.

If Maclin is unable to play, the number one wide receiver role will fall to Chris Conley. Conley is a concern given this is only his second season in the NFL. The bigger question will be if Andy Reid and Alex Smith can make a concerted effort to use Conley as a number one.
