ESPN dropped their NFL power rankings on Tuesday, and proved that they are going into the realm of science fiction.

It’s Tuesday, which means everyone drops their power rankings and fans get to go catatonic about how slighted they were. In the case of the Kansas City Chiefs, they would have a hell of a case. Over at ESPN.com, the Worldwide Leader actually moved the Chiefs back a spot after WINNING BY 21 POINTS against the New York Jets.

You can’t make this stuff up. Having Kansas City at 11th is fine, but having them drop after a game like that is insane. Also, let’s not forget that the Chiefs moved up after playing horribly against the Houston Texans the week before.

One has to wonder what happens if the Chiefs go into Pittsburgh and beat the Steelers. DO they fall to 30th? Perhaps they fall completely out of the rankings and get replaced by Vanderbilt or something.

Let’s check out where the Chiefs came in elsewhere:

NFL.com: 8

"What a rebound by the Chiefs’ defense on Sunday. The key stanza might have been the fourth-quarter interception by Marcus Peters on a tipped ball. Ryan Fitzpatrick tried to force a throw into Quincy Enunwa on first-and-goal, then went back to the well again on second-and-goal. Tip drill. With Jamaal Charles slated to return soon, next week’s matchup looks awfully tasty … at Heinz."

FOX Sports: 11

"The Chiefs made Ryan Fitzpatrick look like a Division III quarterback on Sunday, picking him off six times and forcing eight total turnovers. The offense is still a work in progress as Alex Smith has been unimpressive thus far, but the defense is littered with ball hawks."

Yahoo: 10

Nobody has posted more than 10 interceptions in a season since 1981, when Everson Walls did it. Marcus Peters has four interceptions in three games. It’ll be hard for him to keep getting his hands on passes for picks, but he has a shot at a historic season.
