Coffee with the Chiefs – Capital Gaines?
Good morning, Addicts! The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the second day of training camp for quarterbacks, rookies and players returning from injury.
We learned plenty over the last two days, with Justin Houston not being ready to practice at St. Joe’s, Eric Berry holding out and Jamaal Charles being placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. However, there was plenty of good news as well, like Phillip Gaines feeling good in his comeback from a torn ACL and Tyreek Hill looking like the fastest human to ever grace Earth.
Here is the news you need to know…
Chiefs’ backup quarterbacks are set to compete – Associated Press
"Smith has been a durable starter during his time in Kansas City, somewhat assuaging the fear of an unproven youngster under center. But the Chiefs had also had the comfort of a veteran in Chase Daniel if something should go awry, and that security blanket left for the Philadelphia Eagles."
Eric Berry won’t report to training camp on Friday – Adam Teicher of ESPN
"Coach Andy Reid said Tuesday that he has been in contact recently with Berry, the Chiefs’ unsigned franchise-tag player, but did not know whether Berry would report Friday. But Reid didn’t sound as if he was expecting Berry’s absence to be extended."
Phillip Gaines ready, excited to compete for starting spot – Herbie Teope of Chiefs Digest
"Outside of individual position drills, the occasion marked one of the first times Gaines has participated in close to a full practice since undergoing surgery in October 2015 to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee suffered in Week 3."
Are the Chiefs the safest bet to win AFC West? – Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride
"The Chiefs are deep enough that I think even without those two playing at a high level they could be borderline playoff contenders but they wouldn’t be real threats. They would be the Texans of the playoffs — just happy to be there."
