Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston is not expected to practice at training camp.

Head coach Andy Reid arrived at training camp on Tuesday and spoke to the media. While nothing too groundbreaking was said, Reid did says that Justin Houston is not expected to practice at training camp.

So what does this mean/ Well, it means Houston won’t be starting the regular season on the field, which is a shock to nobody. Houston was given surgery on Feb. 16 to repair a non-functioning ACL, something that was given a timeframe of 6-12 months to recover from.

Houston is likely going to start the season on either the Physically Unable to Perform list or Injured Reserve-Designated to Return. If he starts on the PUP list, that would mean Houston is out for the first six weeks of the season (it would mean five games, as the Chiefs have a Week 5 bye). Being on IR-Designated to Return would put him out for the first 10 weeks, so let’s all hope for the former.

Without Houston in camp, the Chiefs will be giving Dee Ford all the first-team looks opposite Tamba Hali. Ford had four sacks in his second year with Kansas City in 2015. It’s now or never for the 2014 first-round pick.
