Jamaal Charles provides update on knee

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles writes about his process.

Charles, 29, is not getting any younger. Yet, he still believes he can compete at the highest of levels as he returns from his second torn ACL.

The All-Pro talked about his road to recovery on his website in a post called The Fourth Quarter, and it’s encouraging for all those who support the Chiefs. Charles talked about progressing each and every day, working with both the team training staff and the EXOS performance facility.

While he didn’t come right out and say it, all signs point to Charles being back on the field for the start of training camp come July 30. My guess is that head coach Andy Reid takes it easy with Charles throughout the preseason, limiting him to practice and maybe a few touches throughout the four exhibition games.

Kansas City was able to go 10-2 without Charles last season, but having him back could be the difference between reaching the Divisional Round and winning the Super Bowl. At his age, Charles may only have another year or two in the tank, so the time is now for the potential Hall of Famer.

Let’s all hope Charles’ optimism is warranted, and he comes out rolling in September.
