Part two of this series examining the position groups of the Chiefs prior to training camp focuses this week on the running backs. This includes the four halfbacks with game experience as well as ever present yet seldom used fullback Anthony Sherman. The Chiefs also have a second fullback on the roster as well as a fifth running back to contend for roster spots.

This position group has shown itself to be very capable regardless of the situation as five of the seven players have had ample opportunity to show the team and the NFL what they can do. The reality is that there is just not enough room for them all on the field and the continued shift away from power offense makes guys like Sherman a rare sight on offense.

The outlook for this group is great for 2016 given what they accomplished in 2015 without star runner Jamaal Charles. The group will have to step it up again throughout camp and maybe the first few weeks of the season as Charles will be eased back into the lineup while recovering from his ACL injury. Don’t expect a drop in production as Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West continue to get first team reps. Charles makes this team better but this offense does better than “OK” without him.
