Going into the 2016 season, who is the biggest threat to the Kansas City Chiefs?

The Chiefs are going to be a good team barring injury. That line of thinking isn’t being a homer, it’s being practical.

In the three years under head coach Andy Reid, Kansas City has gone 11-5, 9-7 and 11-5 respectively with a pair of playoff appearances in 2013 and 2015. Last year, the Chiefs played down the stretch without Jamaal Charles and Justin Houston, yet still won 10 straight games to finish the regular season before taking down the Houston Texans to break their 22-year postseason drought.

Going into 2016, the roster appears mostly the same with a new draft class, along with the addition of Mitch Schwartz and loss of Sean Smith. With the schedule easier on paper (you will never see an easier home slate than Tampa Bay, New Orleans, New York, Jacksonville and Tennessee), Kansas City is poised for a very good year.

With all that said, who is the biggest threat in the AFC West?

Typically, this would be a very easy answer. The Denver Broncos are coming off a Super Bowl win and have won the West for the past five years. However, Denver has a lousy quarterback situation and its great defense took legitimate hits this offseason with the losses of Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan.

Meanwhile, the Oakland Raiders got much better on paper. The Raiders added the aforementioned Smith, Reggie Nelson, Bruce Irvin and Keleche Osemele while losing only Charles Woodson. Many believe Oakland is going to win the division, while there has even been murmurs of championship dreams coming out of the East Bay.

So, which team poses the greater threat to the Chiefs? Most would agree the San Diego Chargers won’t be factoring into the division race, so we focus on the Raiders and Broncos.
