Peter King makes shocking pick for Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are mocked by most to take a cornerback, but not from Peter King.

In three days, the Chiefs will be on the clock and we will all be holding our breath, waiting for general manager John Dorsey to make the first-round pick. Kansas City is believed by most to be targeting a cornerback, including Mackensie Alexander, Eli Apple, Artie Burns, William Jackson III and others.

However, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King sees the draft going a different way. King has Apple, Jackson and Alexander going off the board before No. 28 goes on the clock, with those players headed to the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers, respectively.

With everyone but Kendall Fuller and Burns off the board, King goes with Ole Miss Rebels receiver Laquan Treadwell. This certainly fills a need but would also qualify as a stunner, with most believing he will long be off the board. Here is King’s thought on this move:

"He could fall this far because of his 40 time (4.65 seconds), and because other positions are stocked so well. He’s the best big receiver in this draft, not quite physical and tall (at 6-2 and 221) on the level of Calvin Johnson, but he made a lot of plays at Ole Miss using his body and physicality to his benefit. He’d be a very good complement to Jeremy Maclin."

Personally, I would be thrilled with this move. The Chiefs should be looking first and foremost for a corner, but if everyone good is already taken, it would be wise to snatch up the best receiver in the draft. Treadwell was a beast in the SEC, routinely torching some of the best defenses in the country despite playing with mediocre quarterbacks.
