The Kansas City Chiefs remained perfect on Friday night, walloping the Tennessee Titans 34-10 at Arrowhead Stadium in a rain-shortened affair. Alex Smith was sublime and completely in tune with receiver Jeremy Maclin, with the duo leading the Chiefs to a dominant victory. Let’s get to the recap.

Three Stars

1. Alex Smith

Smith was bad throughout the first two preseason games, leading to some calling for Chase Daniel. Smith answered all the critics and then some on Friday, completing 16-of-18 for 171 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover. Smith was finding Maclin early and often, while also spreading the ball out to Travis Kelce, Jamaal Charles and Chris Conley. Smith was pulled in the second quarter despite being scheduled to play into the second half, mostly becsause he was incredible.

2. Jeremy Maclin

Maclin showed why he was paid $55 million this offseason. Maclin caught five passes for 71 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown. On the score, Maclin ran a nice corner route and made a catch in traffic along the sideline before staying in bounds and turning upfield. It was nice to see Maclin and Smith having such beautiful chemistry this early in the process.

3. Aaron Murray

Murray started horribly with one of the worst interceptions you will ever see. Yet, Murray regrouped in the second half and tore Tennesse to ribbons, completing 15-of-20 passes for 146 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Murray hit Fred Williams twice in the end zone, who caught five passes for 62 yards. Williams has enjoyed a tremendous preseason with four touchdowns overall.

Injuries

Luckily, there is not much to report. We were told during the broadcast that Albert Wilson had a shoulder injury, but he remained on the sidelines in pads. It does not appear the injury is serious.

Next week

The Chiefs will close out the preseason against the St. Louis Rams on Thursday night. Don’t expect any of the starters to see a snap.
