Predictions for Alex Smith and Chiefs roster battles

Of course it’s silly to predict the Chiefs’ final roster before training camp begins. However, it’s also probably silly to do a weekly Chiefs podcast during the offseason. Welcome, we’re all mad here.

While a few positions seem to be already locked in for the 2015 Chiefs, especially a few top-tier starters, there are several positions where the bottom of the roster is going to invite competition and a few surprises. Obviously these current predictions are based on past achievements, as we remain two months away from training camp and nearly three months from preseason football. Not only will players rise and fall throughout camp and the preseason, I expect John Dorsey to bring in players who barely missed the cut from other rosters. However, we as Chiefs fans have a job to do. And that’s to be interested in the roster in late May.

There is some real news and sort-of-almost-real-football to talk about, as Chiefs rookie minicamp came and went. Terez Paylor, Chiefs beatwriter for the Kansas City Star, turned many of his minicamp observations into a mailbag that provides some interesting insight into what happened for the Chiefs last week. Along with a few NFL headlines including a new home for ex-Chief Mike McGlynn, there’s more than just speculation to discuss.

Also on this episode, I respond to a few comments from last week’s show surrounding Alex Smith and the expectations about this year’s Chiefs team. I’m going to keep returning to the comments for discussion in future shows, so be sure to participate and talk about whatever you think is relevant.
