NFL Draft 2015: FanSided editors take their cuts

On Tuesday, FanSided released its NFL editors mock draft. It’s fantastic, wonderful, and all those other adjectives. We spent a few days making the picks, getting through the first-round before we decided to retire from mock drafts for another year.

I tried to represent our community with class and dignity. Who knows if I fell short, things got heated. Regardless, I chose Wake Forest cornerback Kevin Johnson for the Kansas City Chiefs, bolstering the secondary.

"The Chiefs desperately need a corner to complement Phillip Gaines and Sean Smith. Smith is likely to be suspended after pleading guilty to DUI, so the need becomes even more dire. Additionally, Kansas City is without a slot corner after allowing Chris Owens to leave via free agency. Johnson is a large, physical player who can play in Bob Sutton’s aggressive bump-and-run scheme. With Johnson, the Chiefs are getting a very good fit and an elite athlete."

This might be the toughest draft to predict in a while. It wouldn’t shock me if general manager John Dorsey takes a corner, safety, receiver, linebacker, defensive lineman or offensive lineman. If there was a tight end worth looking at with the 18th-overall pick, I would consider that as well.

Kansas City does not have any glaring needs for 2015, outside of a third corner and perhaps a center, depending on the coaching staff’s opinion of Eric Kush. However, there are a bevy of defensive starters slated to hit free agency in 2016, so getting some quality replacements in place is a huge priority.

It will be fun to look back at this on Friday morning to see how many people nailed their pick. My guess? Less than 10. One trade will turn this whole thing on its proverbial ear, and that is exactly why we watch. It’s incredible theater with so much on the line.
