What A Win Means: Kansas City Chiefs

facebooktwitterreddit

Have I ever mentioned that I absolutely hate living this close to Denver? No? Well, I do.

Not only did I get decimated in my fantasy league, but instead of watching my Kansas City Chiefs get their first win of the year (and in a commanding way), I had to miss the game because CBS loves Denver. Well, not if you ask that group of people of questionable intelligence about Mr. Phil Simms.

That being said, it was quite disappointing to miss what turned out to be a great victory for the Chiefs. Yes, it was against the Miami Dolphins, but this was a Dolphins team that shocked the NFL in Week 1, taking down the visiting we-win-the-divison-every-year New England Patriots. So before the haters start coming out of the woodwork, let’s take a look at why this win means more than just a “W” in the win column.

When the Chiefs’ star player, Jamaal Charles, went out with a high ankle sprain, people all over the NFL counted the Chiefs out because of the loss and their schedule. However, backup running back Knile Davis has proven that not only is this team OK when their star player goes out, but it’s in good hands. Those fantasy owners smart enough to pluck Davis were treated to 132 yards and a touchdown. Joe McKnight also scored the first offensive touchdown of his four-year career—a moment that was special in more than one way.

Travis Kelce is proving himself to be a valued tight end target for quarterback Alex Smith. With him and Anthony Fasano, we will finally start to see some key two-tight end sets. Not only will this open up options for the offense, but it should take some of the pressure off of Charles when he returns.

This also gives the Chiefs some much-needed confidence. Going 0-2 after a 9-0 start to 2013 had to be a killer for this squad, who were clearly better than their record implied. Getting the first win of the year on the road is something they can be extremely proud of—taking it one game at a time. Not to mention we get to see some crazy Andy Reid dance moves.

Up next, the Chiefs take on the New England Patriots in a Monday night showdown. Not only is this game winnable, but it could bring the Chiefs closer to the top of the AFC West. With their first win, the Chiefs have finally climbed over that hump, and things are very much looking better for 2014.

What do you think, Addicts? Do you feel that with the win at Miami the Chiefs have regained their mojo?

Go Chiefs!
