Unsatisfied With Success, Broncos Fans Complain About Phil Simms

Since the arrival of Peyton Manning, which was preceded by the miracle Tim Tebow team and two Super Bowls from John Elway, the Denver Broncos have been one of the more successful NFL franchises. So, naturally, it is time for them to complain about something.

The constant media love affair with Manning and the Broncos mean CBS sends out their A-team broadcasting group of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms to most games. Simms has drawn the ire of Broncos fans as being heavily biased against the Broncos, and to show their disapproval they’ve started a petition to have him banned from doing Broncos games ever again.

Seriously.

From Mile High Report:

"“The People of Denver” have spoken and started a petition on Change.org to have Simms banned from Broncos games. It received nearly 100 signatures in its first five minutes. As of Monday morning, the petition has over 3,000 signatures. Their goal is 5,000 signatures."

And here is how said petition reads:

"We do not know why he is assigned to the Broncos games every year. It is sure and complete torture for Bronco Fans to have to listen to his biased drivel every week. Please sign this petition so our voice can be heard. We are tired of Phil Simms in Denver!"

Oh my.

Denver fans were particularly irked about a comment made during the Chiefs-Broncos broadcast yesterday where Simms said something to the effect of ‘I’m not sitting here rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, but…” A small piece of logic would say that a guy who is forced to cover several Broncos games every year, most of which are not very entertaining games, would want the game to be close and entertaining because that makes the broadcast more exciting. So, yes, he probably was rooting a little bit for the Chiefs to not be horrible and for the game to not be over by the end of the first quarter. But logic and Broncos fans don’t always mix well.

As of this writing the petition has over 14,500 signatures. You can keep updated on the progress (and maybe troll some Broncos fans while you’re at it) by following the petition over at Change.org.

It must be noted Simms and Nantz are scheduled to be the announcers for the Broncos-Seawhawks game this weekend so now I’m extremely excited to watch this game. Whatever pain befalls the Broncos gives me great pleasure. Is that shallow? Yes. Do I care? No.

With all of that said, remember Randy Cross? Deity, I hated that guy.
