Kevin Vickerson Was Ready For The Broncos

Newly minted Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson was out for revenge on his old team and several times he succeeded.

In limited snaps Vickerson had a tackle for loss and aided a defensive line that helped hold the Broncos to only 88 yards rushing for the game. Vickerson said he was ready for the Broncos. Literally.

Vickerson later told Paylor he picked the Chiefs because he wanted the opportunity to play Denver twice. The Broncos cut him from the roster at the end of August which made him available to the Chiefs went Mike DeVito went down for the season with a ruptured achilles.

One of the biggest fears after the loss of DeVito and Derrick Johnson was what the Chiefs were going to do to stop the run. DeVito and Johnson are two of the Chiefs best run stopping players and without both of them available Chiefs looked like the could be in a lot of trouble against an offense like Denver’s. But Vickerson fit in well with a rotation of Chiefs defensive linemen, including Vance Walker and Jaye Howard, at holding firm at the line of scrimmage.

This is not to say there are not some things the Chiefs need to clear up on the back end, but Kansas City did a good job containing one of the best rushing offenses they’ll see all season. Hopefully Vickerson can continue to be a part of that development.

And hopefully Vickerson can get a win over his old team when they visit Kansas City later in the season.
